How to stop caring about things I can't change?

I am like many people if not most pretty sensitive and have a tendency to take a lot of things to heart even things that don't affect me and that I can do nothing about. Awful things happening to people in far away places that even endless marches and outcries can do nothing to stop. The rising tide of hatred against women online, the destruction of wildlife's habitats or just people being generally unthinking and destructive as they go about their lives.

I just find it ends up playing on my mind and getting in the way of other things. I am all for staying informed and doing something that is practically helpful when you can and in the past I have been an activist and volunteer for several causes. However at this point in my life I have other priorities and things to focus on and I don't want to be a part time keyboard warrior because while it might feel cathartic I don't think it achieves much. However I find it so hard to turn off all that noise, worry and anger about the state of the world.

If you've done this successfully how?
