playdates yr2

Ds has just started yr2 and they've mixed up their classes so he has a few friends with him but not everyone. He doesnt get invited to that many playdates so am not sure how often do others invite their kids' friends over. Most kids are in after school clubs which means they do get to play together after school. I dont want him to miss out on making friends in his new class but am also an introvert. How often do you invite your kids friends' over and the other way round?

My Dd is 6, I generally don’t invite them from school…as of yet anyway. I have a group of mum friends (kids all at different schools) and we meet as a group of friends for play dates and then my Dd has two neighbour friends (they’re at the same school, but not the same year) and they tend to be in and out of each others houses at weekends and sometimes after school

Ds also has a few friends outside school so we see those quite a bit. In fact, our weekends are busy with seeing other friends. So it's not like Ds doesnt see other kids, just not always his school friends.

I don't like playdates, DS1 loves them, I probably do a couple per half term - usually approach via WhatsApp (we have their numbers from the group chat) and say along the lines of "DS1 has been saying that he'd love to have X over to play, is there a day after school that suits?". Everyone is very local to the school, so sometimes at the weekend I post on the WhatsApp group that we're govt to be at the local park and usually there's a fair number that come for an impromptu play. The park after school on a Friday is also a good shout
