How much is your water bill?

Allnewtometoo · 11/09/2024 13:50

And are you on a meter?
How many family members etc...

I'm one adult, 2 primary dc.
No shower but we share baths. Not every day
4-5 loads of washing a week.

Not on a meter.
£74 a month.

We pay twice yearly and it’s usually around £250. We’re on a meter and are a three adult household. We only have showers, the washing machine is used perhaps four times weekly and I try to run the dishwasher every 2-3 days.

I’m interested to see if our usage has decreased much since our other son moved out in April, the bill we received in May covered him still living here. He used a lot of water though. I don’t think we’ll be paying less though considering the price rises.

LadyDanburysCane · 11/09/2024 17:38

Three adults all showering at least once a day (twice if exercising). Dishwasher once a day. Washing machine around 5 times a week. Irrigation system in garden during the summer. Flush the toilet after every use. If we need to use water - we use it. On a meter - my last 6 monthly bill was just under £200.
That’s slightly less than my neighbour (identical house but lives alone) who refuses a meter and pays around £50 per month (she just cannot believe that a meter would save her money).

We are with Thames Water.

£80 a month. Not on a meter.

Lorrymum · 11/09/2024 17:42

caringcarer · 11/09/2024 16:30

Just found it £456 last quarter.

Have you checked for a leak? You could have one between the meter and your property bitter experience.

HeChokedOnAChorizo · 11/09/2024 18:00

Before meter £900 for the year, normal sized 3 bed house

Now on a meter I pay £39 a month

No idea why it was so high

LittleGreenDragons · 11/09/2024 18:02

Good grief. Ours is £800 ish per year. House is a normal 3 bed semi in a cheaper area. I feel scammed 😮

Not metered. Severn Trent. For water and sewage.

This is such an odd coincidence, but your post is almost exactly what I was going to write, down to the provider.

Although, we're 2 adults 3 teens and dishwasher run at least once a day, sometimes twice.

So maybe not almost exactly Grin.

I don't really understand how to interpret my bill - I've just logged in and it says I'm £186 in credit?!

(Previous house not on a meter we paid £35 a month)

The credit is due to quarterly bills and monthly DDs.
The payments add up then they bill every Nov, Feb, May and Aug.

Just out of interest, why do so many folks pay monthly.

Twice yearly bills here. Combined water and sewerage just under £50/ month two adults. Lots of washing and baths.

I pay monthly as Santander 123lite gives me 3% cashback on water bills. Free £21 a year just for paying monthly DD

Alapotin · 11/09/2024 21:13

Water bills are very variable by area, ours is £42 a month by meter, Anglian Water, 2 retired adults

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 11/09/2024 21:20

I used to pay £55 a month and then changed to £89 a month few months ago and it’s metered.
Me
husband
3 teenagers and 10year old
we all shower everyday
washing machine x 5 loads every week
dishwasher once a day

Ignignokte · 11/09/2024 21:23

As someone previously mentioned, standing charges are about £27/£28 per quarter for metered properties (in my area anyway) so if you're one of those paying tiny amounts monthly but you're using an average amount of water, your meter may be busted. They're designed so that when they break they either stop reading completely or start reading backwards so customers aren't overcharged when they inevitably come to the end of their shelf life until they're replaced. Interestingly, it can take a very long time for that to happen.

We are 2 adults, 2 kids and big ol' dog (no dishwasher) and use about £42 per month. This is considered below average for the area - and I rung and asked them to increase it a bit so we're paying £48 just so we have a buffer incase water usage increases for some reason. I do the same with electric and gas - usually end up with a decent little refund once a year when they review the plan.

Anybody struggling with their water bills, check their website for support schemes or call & just ask if there's any way to reduce your bill. There are schemes for those with medical conditions, income based schemes, number of children in a household based schemes, and so on, but they all vary by area - or they can just give you a comparison of rateable value charges versus metered for your region if you'd like the up to date info.

Cheers

£55 a month, 2 adults, 2 children, daily showers for the adults, daily dishwasher, about 10 loads of washing a week, SE, meter

imworkinglate · 11/09/2024 21:43

£34 a month on a water meter
1 adult, 3 teens.
I work and claim universal credit so was eligible for the water savings where they cap the cost I pay.

StMarieforme · 11/09/2024 21:47

OnlyYellowRoses · 11/09/2024 14:12

Metered.
3 bedroom mid terrace.
2 adults, 3 teens and one primary age child.
Daily showers for majority, couple of baths weekly.
At least one load of washing daily.
10ft pool in summer to fill every two weeks (so three times over the summer)
£47 per month.
I'm happy with that!

Yeah we're 3 bed mid terrace and £49 per month unmetered.

LuckysDadsHat · 11/09/2024 22:06

£82 a month for 2 adults and a child. Bath and 2 showers daily between us. Washer on daily, dishwasher on daily and some washing up by hand. We live in the 2nd most expensive area for water bills though.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/09/2024 22:23

Metered £48 a month, just me and teen dd.

BurntBroccoli · 11/09/2024 22:37

£17 a month - water meter

BurntBroccoli · 11/09/2024 22:40

3 bed, 3 adults - £17 a month on water meter. Dishwasher and electric shower.

thoroughlypickled · 11/09/2024 22:41

£34 pcm, on meter. Two adults...both shower daily. Dishwasher is on daily.

Calamitousness · 22/09/2024 16:05

@MissRainbowBrite how on earth do you pay so little. Look at the others on here with less living in a house and they’re more than you.
I have meter in a 4 bedroom house. 2 adults, 2teens. Dishwasher every day. All shower/bath every day. Car washing. Plants. Power wash outside a couple of times a year at least. Washing machine at least x2/3 daily. We are £80/month.

sprinklesandtwinkles · 22/09/2024 16:14

South east, £75 monthly for water and sewerage, 1 adult and two teenagers. Had water meter installed and bill shot up to almost £100 so went back to unmetered.

meeeeeee1234 · 22/09/2024 16:20

I am with South West Water, one of the most expensive companies. Before I was on a meter (2021) I was paying £1900 a year (£190 a month over 10 months).
I am now paying £63 a month on a meter - 3 bed semi, 3 adults with daily showers, washing machine about 5/6 times a week, 1 car washed via hose, garden being watered etc.
Our other adult child also visits regularly.

Oldraver · 22/09/2024 16:21
