If you were a passport, where would you be?

Help please!

New passport delivered a couple of weeks ago. It was sitting with a pile of mail and then I move it (still in its envelope) to sitting with another couple of pieces of paperwork which were still to be filed away. I’ve just went to get the passport and it’s not there 😫

I’ve spent 3 hours this morning turning the house upside down and it’s nowhere to be seen. Nursery aged DS said the envelope went in the bin 🙃 I definitely didn’t take the passport out of it so if it’s in the bin then the passport is too. And it’s been emptied this week.

I need it to get details off of which needs done within a couple of day. If I need to get a new one it’ll be my 3rd within 8 months and the thought of that money is soul destroying!

So if you were a passport - where would you be?

Have you filed away the other pieces of paperwork that were lying with it? If so, have you checked you didn't inadvertently put the passport away with some of that paperwork?

Slipped down the back of the table/sofa
In a toy box
Filed where everyone else's passports are
Between other bits of paperwork
In the recycling

@Autumnaltime Nope, I needed them all for the same task - went to do that task this morning and then planned to file away all the documents away after. Then discovered the missing passport.

@TickingAlongNicely Have checked all of the above unfortunately. Have also checked kitchen cupboards, beside drawers (and behind/underneath etc), handbags, bookcase etc

Are you mentally looking for a burgundy passport instead of a black one? I've done that when trying for find DDs one in the box...

Wigtopia · 11/09/2024 11:01

I would check:

  • Bullshit box (place where everything is swept into for sorting later)
  • any stacks of paperwork
  • filing areas
  • coat pockets
  • bags
  • under/ behind furniture (side tables/hallway furniture)
  • That kitchen drawer that has a remarkable resemblance to the bullshit box
  • your kids’ stack of craft paper (envelope might have suck in)

goodluck!!

Found my phone down the back of a radiator a few months ago. I had spent days looking.

Cut your losses and apply for another one right now.

Learn to keep important documents safe immediately and use a password and essential information storage app to note the numbers and details quickly once such things arrive. Me? I'm off to polish my halo; I am fairly anal about doing these things rapidly despite being part of a busy, often chaotic household.

PS If I were your passport, I would be nestled in that envelope, glad to be protected from the dirty discarded packaging around me as I wait in the recycling bin to be collected and recycled.

Autumnaltime · 11/09/2024 11:06

Do you think if your DS has told you he saw it in the bin he perhaps actually might know something about what happened to it? Do you think he might have hidden it somewhere or done something with it as part of a game?

SkaneTos · 11/09/2024 11:07
  • In a book
  • In between books
  • In a purse/handbag
  • In a pile of newspapers/magazines
RedPalace · 11/09/2024 11:08

You've added the second pile of papers to a third pile of papers when you needed to clear a kitchen counter or a dining table. Where are all the other piles of paper in the house?

footgoldcycle · 11/09/2024 11:10

Take out the drawers. Often things fall behind them

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/09/2024 11:10

Is the toddler reliable? If he is, then take hydros for it, the passport has been thrown away.

If not, do you have a printer/scanner? Is it on the glass?

DadJoke · 11/09/2024 11:14

“The envelope went in the bin” is a very passive statement, which suggests DS has more information.
