To fix 9Y old washing machine or buy a new one?

During a wash load today, the machine was smoking and there was a burnt smell

It is a very basic model and the cheapest I could find when I was broke and had to move without much notice a little over 9 years ago

I don’t have space for a tumble drier but have been thinking about buying a washer / drier for ages, every A/W season

I should buy a new one, shouldn’t I?

Please hit me with your favourite models and reccomend shops please!

Planning to order it tonight

Thanks!

I had a nose around Currys when I got my first and second machines. First was Indesit and my current one is Logik.

By the sound of it may not be fixable OP - nine years isn't a bad lifespan for a cheapo.

I have a washer dryer due to space - obviously not as good as separate, but really not bad. My last one lasted about 10 years which was good for a washer dryer apparently. My plumber told me it's the one appliance he'd get insurance on, because they are more likely to go wrong (though mine didn't - the drum just got mishapen at which point it's curtains)

Sorry adding models - LG, John Lewis own brand, Haier, Samsung, Indesit (Bosch good but $$$). The plumber said to avoid Hoover, but they get decent reviews.

We got this Hoover washer/dryer from John Lewis, and paid for their removal/installation service.

Really impressed with it - have had it for maybe 2 and a bit years, and it has survived minimum daily washes, including multiple washes on some days sorting out toddler DD’s multiple reusable nappies, sicked on bedding… We never bothered activating the wifi nonsense for it though, so can’t recommend that side of it.

They don’t last like they used to….buy a new one

I'd get a new one, and I'll never get another washer / drier.

Only if it’s a Miele!
