Very low glasses prescription - Can I just buy reading glasses

I recently had an eye test - I'm 44 and have a very small prescription of +0.75. The optician was on the fence whether I needed glasses or not, he said I could leave it a couple of years or come back if sigh deteriorated.

But my question is, and it feels like a stupid one if I'm honest, but could I just pick up a cheap pair of reading glasses from anywhere with a strength of 0.75? Will this do the same job as if I got them from the opticians?

Yes.
I spent a fortune on my first reading glasses until I realised I could just buy cheapish ones. I had the same prescription as you but I buy a +1 now. It means I can have multiple pairs .

My mum's been doing this for years. The optician told her to

I started with a cheap pair from Tiger Tiger. As my prescription worsened I then bought from Specsavers, but I also have astigmatism.
