What the hell has bitten me?!

It’s September. In the UK. I didn’t garden yesterday, I didn’t sit outside, I just had a normal day like any other and then go to bed and find these monsters!

What might have done this? If anyone says bed bugs I will cry

Honestly my first thought was bed bug!!!!

babyproblems · 10/09/2024 08:39

I say that just because they’re often in a line/group like that

MiddleSock · 10/09/2024 08:39

Bed bug as they are in a line sorry!

CrumpetsandJammmm · 10/09/2024 08:44

If they were - WERE - bed bugs where might they have come from? No one has been away for ages and no one else in the house has been bitten. I’ve checked my bed and can’t see any sign so far.

We got a new sofa three days ago but again, no one else has been bitten…

I had a perfectly straight line of bites on my upper arm. Google said bed bugs and I was gutted! I haven't been bitten since (this was about two months ago) and there are no signs of bedbugs anywhere. So straight line does not necessarily equal bedbugs! If that puts your mind at ease 😬

CrumpetsandJammmm · 10/09/2024 09:15

I’ll watch with bated breath… Just slathered the cats in flea treatment even though they were last done two weeks ago, and had a good look at the new sofa but can’t see anything.

Ouch! Worth a really good hoover round, re make your bed, pull out underbed boxes/behind wardrobes? It’s spider season and those juicy ones bite nasty (faux widows not sure of their real name?)

CrumpetsandJammmm · 10/09/2024 09:20

Good plan, will hoover everywhere later!

Bed bugs or fleas. I would call in pest control - both are extremely hard to get rid off.

A few months ago I had a dark bug (not sure if it was a bed bug or something else I flicked it so fast) crawl onto my lap when I was on the tube. It's easy to get infested.

Mudflaps · 10/09/2024 09:42

Not necessarily bed bugs or fleas. This year I have been a walking dot to dot puzzle with sudacrem stashed in the kitchen, the garden shed and the car.. I'm confident there are no bed bugs or fleas, it's happened on gardening and non gardening days and while staying at my father's house as well as my own but I have no idea what's actually causing it. Until a few years ago I never seemed to get bitten or at least never had a reaction but now I take an antihistamine daily from June to September, as well as bites I now react the plant sap, even cut grass. I know the hive/reaction is related to menopause and histamine issues but I'd love to know exactly what is biting me.

CrumpetsandJammmm · 10/09/2024 10:09

Interesting, I am very much perimenopausal. I'm not 100% convinced on bedbugs purely because of the timing of it (during the day) and can't quite see how they would have randomly got in the house, though obviously you never know. There were no more bites that appeared overnight last night. Will hoover and flea treat and keep an eye...

Had something similar after clearing brambles and was told harvest mites

MiddleSock · 10/09/2024 14:28

During the day is when you sit on your new sofa…. Is it new new or second hand?

CrumpetsandJammmm · 10/09/2024 14:41

Brand new from a big name shop so I don’t want to imagine it came with bed bugs!

Did you ever find out if it was bed bugs or not? X
