What about you?

I'd like to learn how to Dance the Argentine Tango:

Also to learn Italian.

DPotter · 09/09/2024 20:11

Weaving - tried it on a one day workshop and realised I could seriously into it. Sadly wouldn't work with my other hobby / day job.

Pottery. I love the Throwdown and it looks amazing. I've looked, and sadly there aren't any classes in my (very) rural area.

Whereabouts are you Hatty ? Potters tend to gravitate to rural areas as they are cheaper to live in on the whole. A solo potter might be interested in teaching you.
There are regional groups, eg North Wales Potters, Scottish Potters, I know there's a couple of potters on Mull, Could be a way to make contact with individuals who teach rather than a college / evening classes

I would also love to have a dolls house and decorate it fully. Planning to get started when we move to a bigger place with a proper craft room

I'd like to sing. I've no idea if I can but it really appeals to me to sing in a choir.

And run. Crap knees mean I can't do this anymore, but I used to love running. I wish I could still run.

Hiya, you say you like to run, but what aspect of running is enjoyable to you?
If it's getting out amongst nature then maybe my suggestion is no good for you.
I bought myself a six legged rebounder.
I built up from ten minutes per day to twenty, then finally to forty.
I do it to music, as I find that motivating.
I can do it indoors or in the back garden as it's pretty portable.
I used to run, but knees didn't like it.
Rebounding is marvellous as it works your core, and I feel great using it, and afterwards too.
Do a bit of research, and maybe consider purchase?
I got mine for a fiver at a car boot sale, di it needn't be an expensive purchase.

My wish is to join a singling group, but one that uses popular music, and is more about fun than training to be a wannabe pop star....
Unfortunately none in my area, but do wish there was... singing is sposed to be very goo for you, but maybe not so good for the neighbours ears !!!!

Archery
Fencing

I really want to learn how to play bridge.

gingercat02 · 09/09/2024 20:41

Sailing but I can't afford a yacht or moorings, etc. First world problems, eh?

Sonolanona · 09/09/2024 20:45

Drums Grin
In fact at some point I will get myself a set!
For those saying piano or guitar... just get one (digital pianos are great...plug in headphones and no one can hear you!) I took up the guitar a few years ago, and then the piano. I've had a few lessons in person and now use Musora for both... I'm not very good but it gives me pleasure and I can play quite a few pieces, albiet badly!
I'm heading for 60... it's never too late!

We have them on the farm. The wind wrecks my hair and flies really hurt when they snack you in the face at 30mph !!

Also really easy to roll when going across a hill! 😣

Keep looking, I took up pottery just a few months ago and I now have a wheel, my own kiln bought off facebook marketplace and am doing my first glaze firing tomorrow. It is life changing.

If it's feasible for you to have a go at whatever it is you want to have a go at, and you just need a little push then just go for it. Life's too short not to.

Id always, always secretly wanted singing lessons. Always felt maybe i had a semi decent voice in there but i didn't know how to access it. Started lessons recently at the age of 40 and oh my god, the difference even a few lessons has made to my singing voice and my confidence is amazing. I sing everywhere, all the time, and the thrill of being able to produce so much power whenever i want - i had no idea i was capable of it. It's been a revelation.

I really want to learn how to play bridge.

Try looking for local bridge clubs - they usually run classes for beginners. I started last year & really enjoy it

I used to play in a brass band in high school. Often get a hankering to take it up again, especially at Christmas.

Do it! Look for a fourth section or non contesting band and they will be so welcoming - most bands are on the look out for players. I play with one from time to time (not as my main band) and I love the community events - the summer shows, Remembrance Day, carolling - it brings me a lot of midlife joy!

BG2015 · 10/09/2024 06:01

Piano

But we've just downsized so no room for one. Could get a keyboard but learning on an actual piano would be better.

Rock climbing. 🧗‍♀️ But I'm nearly 60 and have a short-legged, non-climber's build...

I climbed a bit when I was much younger, and I still love going up a ladder or scrambling up the fence onto the garage roof - that buzz of trusting to your body and your perceptions, and of being high up...

Me too but there are no mountains or anywhere outdoor to climb near here. Hopefully will be getting some indoor lessons soon though if I can get some childcare arranged.

Seainasive · 10/09/2024 06:06

I’ve always fancied having a go at bell ringing😀

not sure the local church would welcome a heathen like me though.

NOTANUM · 10/09/2024 06:08

Tennis! I always wanted to be one of those who could just suggest a game casually when away or with colleagues but i didn’t grow up somewhere where it was played and I felt it was a young person’s game.

Mummadeze · 10/09/2024 06:11

I want to take acting lessons but don’t have the time

FrostFlowers2025 · 10/09/2024 06:14

Scuba diving
Flying planes

Don't have the funds and am in the wrong area

benefitstaxcredithelp · 10/09/2024 06:15

Surfing but i don’t live coastal and my body is not strong enough.

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 10/09/2024 06:18

Swimming. But I don't have the time between working long hours and the horse. Roll on retirement in 7 months!!!

Twazique · 09/09/2024 18:42

Mudlarking, but there are no new permits.

This is one of my life’s great disappointments. I live vacariously through Lara Mieklam.

notprincehamlet · 09/09/2024 19:15

I'd like to play the piano, knit and swim front crawl really well (not necessarily at the same time)

Id pay good money to see you try tough! 😬

Id also love to play the piano.
