Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

I thought it was lovely, and for what she’s been through I thought her being part of that must have taken ages and she done very well!

Good on her, always want to support a cancer survivor!

cherrysonata · 10/09/2024 19:55

What a depressing thread. So much criticism. So much negativity. Those people having a go - what joy have you brought to others' lives today?

They're pretending to be natural but it's all acting in front of a camera. Sorry but it's very disingenuous. We're being sold what appears to be a complete lie. All very odd.

Edited

The children weren’t faking. They are too little and I thought were quite natural. William I will grant you looked very awkward and not quite sure what to do with his bare legs. Kate just looked like she was getting on with the job to me.

On a human level I cannot imagine how stressful it must have been to have been diagnosed with, and treated for, cancer. This also applies to anyone else who is in the same position. However I'm also acutely conscious that financially she has access to the best healthcare that money than buy and will never have to worry about keeping a roof over her head - unlike many other people living with cancer. I think the film demonstrates they have an excellent PR team who are working very hard on their public image but have gone too far on this occasion. I think the film is ridiculous and potentially offensive to anyone who is in a similar position healthwise but isn't in a similar position in terms of wealth and privilege. A simple statement accompanied by a low key return to her duties as and when she is well enough would have been far more appropriate.

Oh my! It feels like an advert to join a cult, or for sanitary products in parts.

This lol.

It isn't true that everyone who has had a cancer dx and treatment are then monitored with blood tests and scans.
I had oesophageal cancer with most of my oesophagus removed ,a third of my stomach taken away and my stomach repositioned.
I was told that there would be no further monitoring because statistically it did not alter outcomes for people who had had this cancer.
I know this isn't relevant but so many posters have said " she'll have years of tests " and it's driving me mad.

TheGoatgotout · 10/09/2024 20:21

“Back to work” 😐

Thisoldheartofmine · 10/09/2024 20:23

I do think for the POW to have so publicly announced that she has a long road ahead to heal and recover that she must have had life changing surgery.
Of course it takes time to get over chemo but something about the "long road ahead" seems to me to be about her body adapting to surgery, not getting over chemo.

I feel for you @Thisoldheartofmine . In my case it was blood cancer, just before lockdown. They told me it would be unusual to recur but if it did, treatment was useless. Follow-ups were phone calls - ‘do you have ny symptoms?’ Well no, but I never did . ‘OK then.’

I am fine. But as I said upthread, I am always looking over my shoulder.

Catherine has to do all that, and deal with us too. Saying she has privilege means nothing at 2am.

Thisoldheartofmine · 10/09/2024 20:33

"my path to healing and full recovery is long" .
for accuracy

fatimashortbread · 10/09/2024 20:34

The video is utterly vomit worthy gushy nonsense - really surprised an advisor didn’t advise them to pull it. The trip to Wimbledon was really crass too. Pleased she is getting better but the pr is dreadful.

Thisoldheartofmine · 10/09/2024 20:38

I know what you mean about the 2 am worries, but think how much extra grief there is for those who also have money worries and long waits for results.
And who loose their hair as the icing on the cake.

Hedjwitch · 10/09/2024 20:38

Having lost my best friend to cancer,I am genuinely happy she is recovering. Wouldnt wish it on anyone.
Video is a bit OTT.
On a side note,George is growing up so quickly!

Sunshineonararainydayyy · 10/09/2024 20:40

It did look a lot like a promo for a centreparcs break. Given the ridiculous speculation before she announced her illness though she has had to put something out to feed the nosy gits people.

Gemma2003 · 10/09/2024 20:51

You could be nasty about a video released by a young hardworking mum who has faced unimaginable challenges or you could accept it for what it is - Kate trying to engage with those similarly suffering, to give a message of hope and reassurance, and to move away from the personal stiff palace messages of the past.

Lunatuna1234 · 10/09/2024 16:31

Im so happy for her. For me the video expressed most the massive relief she is now feeling and so is very emotional and perhaps slightly overdone as a result. Its a video of a time and place and I totally get where she is coming from. However I think she was badly advised . I think this could upset people who are still dealing with this illness and is not going well , it could upset people who have had a cancer journey that has been made worse by NHS cutbacks, it could upset the front line workers who were not mentioned in this video and who were key in her and all cancer survivors recoveries. The thing is when Kate posts she is posting as the future queen and not just a private individual and a balanced approached is necessary.

I agree with every word of this post!

Oh, I am with you on that. Have shared this ‘journey’ ( and I hate that word ) with many who did not have the employee benefits I enjoyed. Who faced losing their homes or got into debt, because of it. My bald head and eyes were nothing as to that.

Cancer is a shit diagnosis, but we each deal with it as best we can. I will not criticise a woman with young children because her struggles are different to mine.

T1Dmama · 10/09/2024 20:58

I think it’s a little cheesy BUT aren’t most PR stunts.
pleased to see them all looking happy and natural though

CurlewKate · 10/09/2024 21:37

@Gemma2003 "You could be nasty about a video released by a young hardworking mum who has faced unimaginable challenges or you could accept it for what it is"

She's not a "young hardworking mum". And the video, while it has its charms, is a carefully calculated PR stunt that has clearly missed the mark. And has posed more questions than it answered. They are SOO badly advised. It's such a shame.

lolawasashowgirl · 10/09/2024 21:53

Spot on @CurlewKate

I have a feeling that she has an underlying health condition. I’ve thought that long before the cancer announcement.

It’s the way she carries herself at times which reminds me of myself when I’m feeling unwell.

My mum and my sister are usually the only ones who can spot it as I don’t give much away.

I agree with you. I did post either earlier on this thread or elsewhere that I felt from the announcements and wording that the cancer is perhaps worse than alluded to. I think it was the wording of preventative treatment. But she always looked so thin despite being very interested in being sporty and active. So probably you are right and perhaps the cancer treatment has amplified that health condition. I wish her well in her recovery. But I do think she needs to be careful for her public image that she not been seen to be taking a few jollies and not much else. She might have been better (advised) to have publicly paused her charity work for 2024 and 25. Another poster mentioned her young children (pre-school which they aren't, and primary aged) - most families now regardless of work status or health are expected to work from when their children are aged 2 years+. And those families might have daycare but not the same access to full time childcare.

Megcan · 10/09/2024 22:51

Imagine making fun/commenting negatively on someone’s cancer free celebration. She is clearly trying her best and sharing it with the public, probably past herself with happiness she is getting better. Shame on you

I read your post wrong I thought you was talking about working class people. Then someone responded with she's not a 'young hardworking mum' and then it clicked you meant Kate was hardworking? Sorry, I don't relate you're making a mokery out of hardworking people.

FancyHelper · 10/09/2024 23:23

I thought it was lovely , I think they as a family are lovely and I wish them every happiness and I hope Kate stays well. God bless all of them

She's not young and certainly isn't hardworking! Good grief. She was one of the very laziest royals before this treatment and now seems to be signalling that she's going to do even less. She can turn up for the odd fun thing like Wimbledon but has no interest in engaging with normal people. She couldn't even be bothered to thank the many who will have contributed to her care during her illness.

She and to a lesser extent William are just like Harry and Meghan: they want all the fun and glamorous bits of royal life but not the graft.
