Long weekend near London with a baby?

My daughter has a hospital appointment in London at GOSH and we will be getting the train down to Euston to attend (we’re in the north).

We’re thinking we might do a bit of a mini break so we don’t have to travel the day of the appointment and have her over tired (she’s 9 months).

We’ve done London loads of times (but not against doing it again), but just wondered if there was anywhere nearby people would recommend for us to stay for a couple of nights? Either a family friendly hotel or a nice town / village that is within about 45 mins of GOSH (so we can travel from where we’re staying to GOSH on the morning of the appointment, then head home after it).

We won’t have the car so London might be easiest, (might do Richmond again which has the lovely parks) but open to ideas! We’ve also done St Albans before so ruling that out.

Maybe Winchester?

St Albans? There is a good high street with shops and cafes. The cathedral is interesting and there are roman remains and a museum. It’s on the train line into St Pancras.

@Mushroo

I think that Winchester would be too far, it would take longer than 45 minutes to get to Great Ormond Street and there's the possibility of being held up en route unexpectedly.

What kind of budget do you have in mind?
