Large credit and swapping energy providers

I want to swap from Ovo to Octopus energy and have £500 odd credit in my Ovo account. This automatically gets paid back to my bank when I switch- would you then add it as a lump sum to the new energy provider so it's there to supplement the higher winter payments? We pay £175 pcm all year that allows credit to build in summer and gets used up in winter with the higher bills. I just feel nervous putting that much in the energy account but also worry it will get spent in our current account and in winter we will have to pay loads more £££ to top up.

I use Octopus energy. It is very easy to vary the amount of your direct debit online. You could pay £175 the first month and then pay £675 the next and then go back to £175
Octopus are quick.to reply to emails and they may be able to take a one off payment of £500
