Career advice please....

..... I used to be a qualified nurse. I was very good at my job and I also loved it.

... I experienced some really horrible things, including being a victim of very serious sexual crime. I couldn't work anymore.

.....many years have passed. I really want to get back into working.

During the time that I have been unemployed I have been shocked and upset by the way that people (who are considered unimportant) are treated! I'm honestly horrified by how horrible uneducated people are treated. I know this because I went from a respected professional to an unemployed council estate dweller.

....there are so many things that can't be cured by saying get a job! The utterly hideous state of housing. Living with mould and damp. And next door neighbours cannabis issues engulfing your bathroom towels. Working out how to play things with your big time drug dealer neighbour to try and keep him happy so he doesn't think you so naive that he cuckoo your flat but equally showing him don't fuck with me.

Anyway, someone said I should look into a career as an advocate....any advice please??!

Lol.... I didn't explain that very well! It's been an education going from qualified respected professional........to the way I am treated by services as an unemployed council estate dweller! I would not have believed it if I hadn't experienced it myself!!

Anyway, someone said that I should try to get a job as an advocate. Helping people who have no idea that the way they are being treated is seriously wrong!!!! I think hell yes.... I can do that!

Advice please?

If you don't feel ready to go straight into work, you might want to think about volunteering as a way in, have a look at Citizens and Advice UK to see if they have centres near you. You could also see if there's a local council for voluntary service/voluntary action who might help you find a suitable volunteer placement - www.navca.org.uk/find-a-navca-member. Your local Council(s) might also have volunteering opportunities. if you do feel that you can start working immediately, the above may also have jobs you can apply for.
