Tech question about intel processor

Name change as I've asked some real life people with no success!

A couple of years ago I bought my DS a second hand gaming laptop from CEX. The sticker on the bottom says its intel core i7-7700 HQ

The laptop started getting blue screens so I got a local IT freelancer to look at it. He charged £150 to upgrade ram, change to 250 gb ssd and reinstall windows.

The blue screen persisted so I've now agreed to buy him a new laptop for Xmas and have started researching.

My query is this...today I looked at the laptop settings and it says intel core i5-7300 HQ CPU.

So that's different from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop. My googling suggests that is an inferior intel, and not the super gaming version I thought I'd bought.

Now I'm wondering if CEX have sold me a laptop that is inferior than advertised OR the IT dude has fleeced me somehow.

But my tech awareness is too shoddy to know if either is likely or if I can prove when change happened. Can anyone help please?

Assuming the laptop settings are being picked up correctly then it looks like one of those possibilities. Have you checked what it says in the BIOS? [press the stated key when it boots up - usually as the logo appears, before Windows loads]

Laptop CPU's aren't usually swappable (unlike PC ones) so they'd have to swap the entire board. It's possible that CEX were deceived and sold it on in good faith. I fear you'll never be able to discover the truth.

Ah I've checked CEX invoice and it does day i5 on it so I'm being paranoid. Thanks for answering!
