What food/drink do you enjoy now, but used to dislike?

I guess like an acquired taste…

Mine are -

Olives (used to think they were vile but persevered and love them now)

Larger - A few years ago wouldn’t touch it but quite enjoy it now with a splash of lime.

Stilton - Tried broccoli and Stilton soup in a nice cafe and thought it was lovely! Definitely an acquired taste.

Lots! I had to train myself to like certain foods I use to dislike which include tomatoes, smoked salmon, prawns and weirdly I was going to try again with broccoli and Stilton soup the other day!

Oww it's nice to know there's another me!

I also trained myself to like certain foods including tomatoes, fish that wasn't cod, pork, any kind of risotto and all types of cheese.

I wouldn't say I enjoy them all but training myself to like them has meant lots of food choices have opened up to me.

Another one for stilton here!

Also prunes, dates, apricots.

Have also slowly built up my resilience to wine 😂. I used to be drunk after 2 glasses but can now drink much more.

Olives, hard cheese and chutneys

Sidebeforeself · 07/09/2024 17:15

stayathomer · 07/09/2024 17:16

tea!! Only started liking it after I got Covid!!!

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 07/09/2024 17:17

Baileys, blue cheese, coffee and olives. I love them all now.

FinallyYouSaid · 07/09/2024 17:17

Nuts. Went years hating all nuts then one day about 5 years ago I just didn't. Now I love them. Nothing better in the world than a bag of salted cashews.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/09/2024 17:18

Haggis!

GameOfJones · 07/09/2024 17:18

I agree with olives and blue cheese. I remember my dad when I was a teenager would always make me try certain foods again and these are two where his perseverance paid off as I absolutely love them now. I think broccoli and stilton soup is a good introduction to be honest as it's normally not too strong.

My other one would be marmalade. I used to absolutely hate it but can't get enough of it now.

Strangely I've gone the other way with sausages and I can no longer stomach them and find them really greasy and off-putting. I used to love a sausage! 😜

Another for olives! Also red wine and tonic water.

mushrooms

Practically everything Grin

It started when I was really quite hungry on a group weekend away so ate the tomatoes on toast provided for breakfast, despite never having been able to deal with cooked tomatoes.

Realised I was quite enjoying them, so decided to try all the other stuff I hadn't been able to deal with.

Onions (other than pickled or spring). Mushrooms. Rice. Pasta. Cheese sauce. Stews (and thence to curry, chili, bolognese etc). Cooked cauliflower, cooked carrots, cooked broccoli. Leeks. Garlic. Cooked cabbage. Pickled red cabbage. Spinach. Parsnips (they're still a bit weird, mind). Swede. Runner beans. Mussels. Sweetcorn. Stilton (mmmmmmmmmmmmmm Stilton). And in the last few years, olives.

Still don't want kidneys (though I can eat what they've been picked out of), still can't deal with liver, never tried tripe. Still don't like prawns.

Never had an issue with red wine. Well, except that it gives me a migraine, but less said about that the better...

As an adult, black pudding, olives and feta cheese.
From a child to an adult, almost everything. I was so fussy until about the age of 18 that the things I wouldn't eat included pizza, chips and ice cream, let alone any fruit or vegetables.

treacledan71 · 07/09/2024 18:54

Beetroot. I love it now.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 07/09/2024 19:12

Broccoli, cauliflower and sweetcorn. Would make me retch as a child but as an adult I can't get enough.

Tisfortired · 07/09/2024 19:13

Parmesan
Avocado

Another one for beetroot. Discovered the roasted kind and now love it.

I will eat almost anything except aniseed flavoured things- and I have really tried- so fennel is out, even roasted, and tarragon, and also dill. I can tolerate basil however and I will use Star Anise in a stock...

Desiccated coconut makes me recoil, although coconut milk I have recently found, is lovely. ( thank you local Thai restaurant!)

I'll try anything else including innards and gizzards and whatnot
