Does anyone have two teen DC who share a car?

DS is nearly 19 and passed his test over a year ago. We bought him a cheap secondhand car and insured him on it. Now DD is nearly 17 and about to start learning and we want them to share the car (this was always the plan - communicated to DS from the beginning and he is on board with it).

But it seems impossible to insure them both on the same car! We have phoned several insurers and they say they can't insure two teenagers on the same car. Even with me or DH also as a named driver. They also can't sell us two separate policies on the same car.

Surely this isn't such an unusual situation?! What does everyone else do?

Yes as a learner to begin with - but then we were also asking for a quote for when she passes.

I have both my DS (19 and 17) insured on my car but I am the registered owner and main driver.

Whilst they were learning to drive we used veygo learner insurance.

Now they have both passed I'm insured with Churchill.

We're just asking for a quote though.

We use GoGirl. I'm the main driver but car also used by dh and 2 teens. No problem when one was a 17yo learner and the other a 19yo. Will shortly have third dc on it too.

The main problem is that we need a sign-up rota in the kitchen for who gets the car!

Both ds and dd are insured as named drivers on my car and have been as both learners and qualified drivers. I think it depends on me being the registered owner though

Yes - I think that is the problem here. Neither DH nor I would be the main driver. If we were then I think it would be ok. But the plan is that it's their car.

No of course that wasn't the plan - DH or I will be there before she passes.

Perhaps I haven't explained very well. I'm trying to find out what will happen after she passes (so that we can get learner insurance with the same provider) and it seems that no one will insure them both when that happens.
