Not sure if I just saw someone cut off their ankle tag. Do I ring police?

In public toilets, I was washing my hands when someone came out of toilet next to the one I was in and put what I think was an ankle tag in the bin then they left. Very shifty looking person.
I glanced in the bin after they left and saw what looked like a black strap with a small grey box attached to it.
I've googled ankle tags and pretty sure that's what it was.
Do i call the police??

Obviously not! What gives you the right to interfere? If there is any offence, it will be dealt with. It's not for random members of the public to get involved.

And this is why society is in the state it is.

Choochoo21 · 07/09/2024 17:07

No there’s no point, she will be flagged up soon enough depending on what type of tag it is and then will have to deal with the consequences.

tolerable · 07/09/2024 17:17

did security guy follow up. it would do no harm to contact police and say what happened. If it a security tag from a store, frabulous.if its an actual crim tag, not so fabulous. prevention is ALWAYS the go to. @Cynic17 -"if there is any offence" seriously!!!! have a word with yourself

Dodgy people who break the law don't like grasses, certainly.
Any decent member of society would rather be a 'grass' then someone ignoring a potential crime.

Persimmons123 · 13/01/2025 19:18

those saying don’t grass clearly are the ones who probably have been in dodgy dealings…

mollymazda · 13/01/2025 19:23

whoever it was, they are pretty stupid! a bit of thought and they would have removed it at home and left it there! it will alert EMS when it fails to record location at the relevant time.

Arlanymor · 13/01/2025 19:26

In a shopping centre toilets the odds are that it was a security tag from something stolen - if it was an ankle tag it would make a lot more sense to remove it at home. Telling security was the right thing to do.

FootstepAway · 13/01/2025 19:27

Because someone could get harmed. Did you not understand that?

argyllherewecome · 13/01/2025 20:12

Really shocked by the MYOB comments. People are often tagged because of ABH or other forms of violence. There has been a record number of women killed in the last year by male perpetrators. Should we not care about that either? Mind our own business? Someone removing a tag is doing so for nefarious purposes, if they simply wanted a night out they'd remove it at home. Imagine if this person went on to kill a woman, and the OP's face was shown in CCTV footage being evident that she saw the tag. There would be a public outcry about the lack of civic responsibility we feel and I'm sure there would be blame apportioned.

argyllherewecome · 13/01/2025 20:13

Is the tag yours?

@Datafan55 How did you come across this months-old thread to revive it?
I imagine the bins been emptied by now... 😆

I replied to a post that had just been put on ... But it's now not showing. Luckily I'd copied the text.

(have reported my own post to MN to ask if it was a troll poster who deleted their account and posts ... (?))

Why don't you worry about your own life and keep your nose out of it.

That very much seems like none of your bloody business.

Wrong and zombie thread, apologies, must have accidentally clicked on 'similar threads'.
