Help..
I have Vodafone WiFi superfast fibre. We use BT disc system to boost it so connect through that.

It's a victorian house with 3 floors and thick walls so these are needed.

Several of my phone apps won't work on the WiFi. It's annoying as I keep having to turn phone WiFi off and on , then forget to reconnect.
My phone is a Samsung. Husband has same issue on a pixel.

Some of the apps affected are bbc weather, hyperjar and my gym app. Others work fine.

Weird. No particular idea, but I ou are next to the actual router, turn WiFi off and on ( so hopefully it has connected to the router not the extender discs) does that make any difference?

RollerSkateLikePeggy · 07/09/2024 07:25

Also, when you say "not working" eg with BBC weather what happens, do you see an error?
When on WiFi if you go into chrome and do a "where am I" search, does it show your accurate location? Some broadband providers route through random places (abroad) that some apps then won't be set up to work from.

Reallybadidea · 07/09/2024 07:27

Ooh I previously had that issue with Vodafone broadband. It was only my phone and the others in the house were ok so I assumed it was my phone but it stopped when we changed to Gigaclear.

Sorry if that's not very helpful!

Your internet is possibly not strong enough. Does it work better when you’re closer to the router? Does it work better when there are less other devices using the network?

Mynewnameis · 07/09/2024 09:05

It happens even if I'm sat next to router.
Our WiFi has very strong signal and is superfast.
Some apps just freeze
Bbc weather won't open. Tried reinstalling.
Have restarted Internet a few times.

Start by isolating the problem.

Is it just one device that's having issues (i,e, yours) or everyones ?

GPTec1 · 07/09/2024 09:48

I would try your device on a totally different network first and see if it all works ok.
If it does, switch off all the BT Disc's and work with the router only.

I think you may have to default the router, either in software or by using the button on the router, this default wifi passwords, so make sure you have these first
You'll need to re install the BT disc's via mybt app.

If your devices work fine on other networks and defaulting router doesn't work, you'll need to log a fault with Vodaphone.

There are tests you can do with a laptop and certain apps but tbh, troubleshooting a router is the job of the ISP.

We had similar with bt. Went on for years of the same cycle of call centres eventually lost my shit and got through to a really helpful call centre which didn’t start with turning it on and off.
turns out the problem was too many neighbours on BT so we were all knocking each other channels out. I changed to another provider and it was like magic. Problem fixed.

The OP isn't on BT and is on full fibre, so contention isn't an issue, as it can be on an ADSL copper network.

Ah missed that bit. Just saw the Bt bit and had ptsd flashbacks from the hours of helpdesk calls Grin

You kind folks have just given me an idea.
I switched off power save mode on my phone.... I don't want to celebrate too soon but maybe it was something to do with it.

Probably a silly suggestion but just in case - make sure you are connected to the BT wifi on your phone and not the Vodafone one.

Dh has same issue... he also uses phone in power save mode. I think that's the culprit fingers crossed

Oh bugger its not fixed after all. I will fiddle with some location settings. I think the weather app is struggling to locate me

Is it WiFi 6? I found that loads of "live feed" type apps didn't work on my mobile - things like weather, twitter, Facebook etc. I created a new mesh network that didn't use WiFi 6 - I can't remember how I did this but I'm sure I just googled it so it must have been fairly easy to do... Anyway it seems to have fixed the problem. Good luck!

I have no idea if its WiFi 6 as I had to Google what it was .
However this sounds a similar problem that I'm having so will investigate. Thank you

I can't find out if it's WiFi 6. Only full fibre Pro 74. I'm going to have to call Vodafone arnt I (hate it). All looks OK via their tests etc.

Power save mode is the mother of all kludges. Make sure it stays off. A lot of phones will sneak it back on when you aren't looking. It's the handset manufacturers equivalent of dieselgate 😀

The OP needs to get another device that works fine on whatever set that uses and try that device on her network and vice versa.

I would be asking Vodaphone for a replacement router, if a totally different device doesn't work on the OP's network, easiest way to do this is to say its dead, no lights, just switch it off and when they tell x y or z, tell them "no its still not working, otherwise they'll just send you round the houses with resets and f/w upgrades....
The wifi from the V router is the single point of failure.

Won't matter if out of contract as you re still paying a monthly fee for the service.
