Blood clot on brain - (cvst) think I need a hand hold

Tuesday night I suddenly experienced the worse headache of my life and I don’t know why I didn’t go to the hospital then and there as I woke my husband it was that bad. Tried to fight through all week in agony and throwing up, dr said it might be my recently prescribed omeprazole and prescribed different one. Eventually today saw me in person and sent me straight to ane after sitting for 6 hours eventually sent for a scan and been told there is a bleed and clot on the back of my brain.

I am just so worried I have my 20 month son at home who’s barely settled for my mum all night whilst husband is with me. I’ve never slept a night not at his side since he was born im just so worried something is going to happen to me. And so worried how he his going to cope without me, we don’t have a village and only my mum has ever looked after him and she’s desperate to be by my side aswell.

has anyone experienced this? Currently waiting to see a neurologist and I am in a ward but cannot sleep with the pain at all, barely slept all week

I am sorry if that was a rant more than anything. It’s nearly 5am and I needed someone to say it to

Oh lovely I'm sorry you are going through this. No wonder you are worried. You are in the best place you can be. Don't worry about your son he's in a capable hands. Have the doctors said what their next plan is? X

Charlotteap · 07/09/2024 04:53

@glitches78 thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately not, I had three scans downstairs with a lovely doctor but since been admitted to the ward all I’m told is a neurologist will come by in the morning. Just feeling very upset so appreciate your reply and I will update once seen

I honestly don't have any thing useful to say but your ds will be fine with your mum. I hope you get some sleep before the answers and a plan tomorrow.

Kitkat1523 · 07/09/2024 05:01

Have they given you adequate pain relief?

Soñando25 · 07/09/2024 05:13

Oh poor you, that's very scary, but you're in the best place and you'll be looked after. Try to rest for now, hopefully you might sleep a little if you've been given medication,
It's only natural that you're worrying about your son, but your Mum will look after him and you have to be in hospital to get this sorted out.
This time of night / early morning is the absolute worst time for fears to escalate, let alone when you're unwell. You'll definitely feel calmer once you've seen the neurologist and have a plan.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

My mum had a massive blood clot and bleed on the brain a few weeks ago. She was in hospital about a week. She had anti clot injections twice a day for a few days and now is on tablets. She's doing ok. She's got her first outpatients appointment next week to see how the clot is.

OraettaMayflower · 07/09/2024 08:10

My sister in law had the exact same thing, it took time but she recovered well. She was young like you with a toddler when it happened about ten years ago, hers was linked to the contraceptive pill. I remember visiting her and she was on a stroke ward as a young woman surrounded by elderly patients, it was heartbreaking. She got herself referred to a female neurologist who specialises at st Thomas’s in London but I can’t remember her name. Unfortunately my SIL died from something unrelated a couple of years ago so I can’t ask her. Contact thrombosis uk, I haven’t messaged them for a few years but Clare was very helpful. They’re quite a small team. I wish you all the best.

How scary for you. I hope you managed to get some good pain relief and a little sleep before the day shift came on duty.

You're in the right place. Try not to worry about the what ifs. See if you can get some naps through the day. Fingers crossed the neurologist comes round soon.

Hi everyone I really appreciate all your messages. In the emergency department they was so good at giving me morphine pain relief injections etc. but since put onto this ward a nightmare. 10 hour without pain relief and only being offered paracetamol as that’s all the nurse could sign off on and still not seen a doctor let alone a neurologist. Just had a visit from son though so that definitely has put a smile on my face

Push for more pain relief OP. Offering paracetamol for a clot on your brain is horrific.

Sayearlgrey · 07/09/2024 10:48

You poor thing. Hopefully, you will get to see the doctor soon and they'll be able to sort your pain relief and let you know the next steps. Take care x

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 07/09/2024 20:48

Sending you all the love OP. I cannot imagine how scared you must be feeling.

Glad you got to see your son and he's cheered you up a bit❤️

ghostbusters · 08/09/2024 12:53

@Charlotteap how are you doing? Hoping your pain is better controlled.

HRCsMumma · 08/09/2024 13:02

How're you doing OP?

Charlotteap · 08/09/2024 21:50

Thank you everyone for the lovely replies. Unfortunately my hospital doesn’t have a neurological team so have been liasing with the one in Sheffield. I am on a high dose on anti cogulators and will see the stroke doctor in the morning. The third contrast scan showed a clot on the brain and also one in the large vessel on the neck. The headache is horrendous in ane they gave me two codeine and two paracetamol that seemed to do that job. But on this stroke ward seem to only give me one codeine with the 2 paras and it doesn’t seem to shift it. They’ve given morphine a couple times but that seems to make the head worse!

Physio came today and seems like im leaning toward my left side a little but its the left eye that the headache has been about and also where the visual disturbances was. thanks again everyone

Sounds so scary OP.. sending love and strength

Charlotteap · 11/09/2024 21:10

Hi everyone just to let everyone know, I have been given the go ahead to go home Friday, such a scary week and the scan showed the clots have not changed in the week I’ve been here. But on high dose of anti coagulators for rest of the year in the hope my body absorbs the clots and the injections stop a stroke from happening. Unfortunately the headache is still horrific and not much they can do.

ophthalmology noted my left eye slightly bulged and slow to respond so have to keep a close eye on that for future damage and I’m a little weak on the left but I just can’t wait to get home to DS.

we had a villa booked for this Friday big family holiday 6 of us and only a few actually had already got insurance but jet2 have been really nice and offered a free refund so that’s a positive I didn’t expect.

thanks everyone who’s commented on this thread during most scary time of my life x
