Accidentally mixed codeine and alcohol - worried

WhereIsMyDaughter · 06/09/2024 21:59

I took 15mg of codeine for my back pain about 30 minutes ago and then not long ago had 3 mouthfuls of WKD blue. I completely forgot that I wasn't supposed to mix the 2 and now I'm panicking if it can lead to serious health risks. I've been reading all sorts about mixing them being potentially fatal.

Do you think it would be ok with it only being a low dose of codeine and not a lot of alcohol?

You'll be fine, just don't drink anymore

BoundaryGirl3939 · 06/09/2024 22:00

You'll be fine.

Baguettesandcheeseforever · 06/09/2024 22:01

Really not a problem.

Thank you. I won't drink anymore, definitely. I'm hoping what I read online means if you take it in large amounts.

WKD is closer to a Capri Sun than alcohol, you'll be fine.

thenightsky · 06/09/2024 22:01

I take 30mg of codeine for my arthritis pain and drink on it at weekends with no effects. Like tonight. I've had nearly a whole bottle of prosecco over the course of the evening.

🤣😆 that is very true.

Genuinely, this is ok. This is not what mixing alcohol with codeine is referring to in the things you are reading.

MumChp · 06/09/2024 22:03

It's not a problem.

Yeah, definitely don't drink any more, but the tiny bit you've had will be fine.

OMG, DON'T SLEEP. YOU'LL DIE. Joking. You'll almost certainly be completely fine. Your mental health and being overly anxious is another case though. Best chat to somebody about that.

Well, when it says not to mix these things, it's not really a joke is it? It says it for a reason but it obviously means in larger quantities.

You'll be fine. I take 240mg a day and took my last 60mg washed down with a glass of red and had 3 more glasses after.

I'll be alive in the morning.

TheChosenTwo · 06/09/2024 22:44

I’d honestly not worry, obviously don’t drink any more (which you’re not going to) now that you’ve realised but you’ll be absolutely fine!!

mynameiscalypso · 06/09/2024 22:47

You'll be absolutely fine - the main risk is in overdosing where, if you mix alcohol with the pills, you might be more likely to suffer harm at a lower level than if you'd just taken one of them alone if that makes sense?

HerewegoagainSS · 06/09/2024 22:49

More amazed you managed 3 swallows of that stuff - it’s horrible!

You will be fine!

😆 it's one of the only drinks I can manage. Not a big fan of alcohol. I suppose that's more like pop though

Oh wow when I had bad shoulder pain I took inbuprofen, codamol, paracetamol and several large wines for relief!!!

You'll definitely be fine!

Switcher · 06/09/2024 22:53

It's fine. I did that a few times with dental pain and because it didn't touch the sides I also drank quite a bit. I'd say one of the main reasons not to do this (obviously apart from bad for you in general)is because it appears to lead to really bad bruising. Touched the side of the door and had a purple arm.

spaceshooter · 06/09/2024 22:56

Don't worry about it.

This!

I wouldn’t give it a second thought. The booze helps 😂

You will be fine...but this place is a great help when we need reassurance and we have no-one else to talk to about it

summerlovingvibes · 06/09/2024 23:07

Didn't realise they still sell WKD blue 😂😂
