Just had the worst interview ...

It was a online interview for a contact centre at home
It was a Assesment but my brain went to mush
It was puzzles like this and maths ones where you had to click the numbers.
Not sure when I would have to need that skill
But safe to say I did rubbish
Feel a bit sad now
Does anyone else struggle with things like this ?
Or am I just stupid

Just had the worst interview ...

Yes, I tried to measure my IQ once but I couldn't do the puzzles 😂

Spenditlikebeckham · 06/09/2024 09:37

Had a similar interview after a long day at work. Never even got a reply!!

dontsworery · 06/09/2024 09:38

It was with hire vue
Never heard of it before
It's so annoying I know I could do the job but I'm useless at puzzles

Did they warn you? With practice you can improve and find techniques but doing it cold is hard. Did you have to find the two that match? You need to try and spot something that stands out quickly - in the example, the two small blocks are not the same so move to the big blocks. Two of those have two blue squares whereas the other one doesn't. So then a quick check that the rest of the things in those two cubes look the same.

I did get some correct but some also not correct.
The maths I was okay till it got to the really large multiple questions

Why don't you contact the interviewing 'reflecting'?

This will show maturity that you have reflected and appreciate that the puzzles were not what you anticipated but thanking them for the time :)

longdistanceclaraclara · 06/09/2024 10:00

Hire Vue should be banned! I had to do one recently, I assumed it was because it was with an American firm. Did the AI not ask you questions as well? I found the whole thing cringeworthy and made me not want to progress with the process.

It's all virtual / AI. They haven't given any time to the process!

dontsworery · 06/09/2024 10:02

@longdistanceclaraclara yeah they asked me 5 questions which I think I answered okay.
I did read that it's now converted to text and they give you points for eye contact and behaviour cues
I just find it ridiculous really
I think if it was a normal interview I would be fine

I did an online assessment with my DD when she was looking for jobs post university. We knew the logic/numbers ones would be a problem. Even together we were so bad at them that we ended up helpless with laughter. Needless to say she didn't hear from that company and she decided to pursue job options in small companies that relied on words and personality as those are her strong points! Sometimes it is worth knowing what your key skills are and pursuing jobs that capitalise on them.

CornedBeef451 · 06/09/2024 12:04

Nightmare!

I had an online interview recently where I was so anxious I couldn't keep my hands still. In an attempt to at least keep them off screen I ended up unconsciously pulling my trouser leg up and yanking on my very long leg hair!

If it makes you feel better, a couple of weeks ago I had to do maths and English tests for an apprenticeship. I had to ask DD about the maths one as she recently did her GCSEs and so passed that one, but I now have to do a remedial English course as apparently my understanding of context is lacking. I blame their bloody stupid tests!

ThisGreatEagle · 06/09/2024 12:09

You know when people say there are jobs out there, just get a job working from home blah blah?
Even normal intelligent people struggle with these ridiculous tests. And then there's wide-eyed astonishment when companies can't find workers and end up paying vast sums of money to recruitment agencies.

dontsworery · 06/09/2024 14:11

I'm honestly so disheartened about it
I would of loved that job
I know I won't get a look in now
Back to the drawing board

Just received a email
Sorry but we won't be progressing your application
Absolutely gutted
It was a contact centre for jet 2 but at home

I was a travel agent
Gnvq in travel
10 years of customer service experience

And I couldn't pass a hire vue assessment
I'm so upset
