Hi

my DD has just started school and has 2 small stitches in a X at the back of her blazer. Are we meant to remove these?

Thanks

At the bottom of a split?

NoNameNoPlace · 05/09/2024 21:16

Yes you cut the strings to open up the split.

ToBeDetermined · 05/09/2024 21:16

Yes. You are meant to remove them. Check pockets too, often you have to open them as well.

dudsville · 05/09/2024 21:16

Yes. Also if the pockets are stitched up. These are just temporary stitches.

SecretToryVoter · 05/09/2024 21:18

Yes, at the bottom of the slit

Thanks all. I’ll remove and check the pockets. Why are they even there??

To keep it hanging nicely/in line before use. Loads of coats have them…..and I see a lot of people walking around in nice coats who haven’t snipped!

It's a "tailor tack" to help keep the jacket in shape during transit and on the shop floor (many ppl trying on)

There have been threads from people who want to prowl around cities, armed with a little pair of scissors to snip threads. Drives some people batshit Grin

Me too! Especially women. They seem to assume the pockets are fake, not realising, no that’s a real pocket that you haven’t snipped open. I use a seam ripper btw on the pockets.

TBF pockets have often been an after thought on women's clothing so it's also assuming they don't have them.

I often leave pockets esp on suit jackets to keep a nice line, as they never get used

following someone who hasn’t removed the tacking stitch on their coat gives me the 😡

Superbloo · 05/09/2024 23:53

Also when people leave the ‘100% wool’ tags sewn on the outside of their suit jacket sleeves
