What to do in London with a 13 year old sci fi/ anime fan

I want to plan a special day out for DS13 as he has done so well returning to school after really anxious spell.

We visit London often and we have done many of the activities for Sci Fi loving kids of his age, even the Doctor Who shop!

Can anyone think of anything fun and different we can try. As I said in the title, he enjoys science-fiction, anime, anything a bit weird, dark or mystery related and also enjoy trying new foods.

Any ideas appreciated!

I recently took my teen to a free stop motion animation exhibition at the BFI on the South Bank. It was free but we needed to book. It’s the studio that made Boxtrolls and Coraline. Not quite anime but dark and offbeat. Lots of alternative looking young people there.

I haven’t been but is there any chance he’d like this? https://twistmuseum.com/about-twist/

I’m guessing you’ve already been to Forbidden Planet.

Guessing you've already been to forbidden planet (shop)?

There's a war of the worlds experience in the city

When were you planning on going?
Comic Con is on at ExCel October 25-27.

We recently went to the Japan exhibition at the Young V&A in Bethnal Green

Japan Centreeeeee 🇯🇵

JoykillFeministe · 05/09/2024 19:42

Thanks so much. We’ve done several of these greet ideas, but not the stop motion exhibition or Twist.

I’m sure a stop in Forbidden Planet will need to be factored in!

@JoykillFeministe the Japan exhibition at The Young V+A (suggested above) ends on September 8th 🙁

LostittoBostik · 05/09/2024 19:45

Was going to say forbidden planet

It's more science fact (unless you believe they faked the moon landings). There is an immersive experience narrated by Tom Hanks that covers the apollo missions. Also the paradox museum. I haven't been to either, but heard good things.

Thank you. We went a few months ago and he loved it. He randomly bought two Transformers there 😆

Ooh, not come across either of these and they sound fun.

There's a fab anime shop in Camden market

I haven't been to the Welcome Collection but it sounds like a great place for kids & is maybe not that well known?

Also the Imperial War Museum is amazing

northerngoldilocks · 06/09/2024 10:30

Not really either of the things you suggested but we took our 13 yr old DS to the Novelty Automation near Holborn. It's 'satirical / humorous' arcade machines and it was lots of fun. Bit offbeat though so will depend on sense of humour.

Also for food we like Kulu Kulu for fantastic conveyor sushi or market halls for everyone choosing what they want (tho it's usually Gopal's corner)
