Yorkshire puddings...

Are they a part of a roast chicken dinner in your house?

What do you consider as essential components of a full roast dinner?

Yorkshire puddings are for roast beef, and roast beef only! We have stuffing with chicken if I'm really pushing the boat out!

longdistanceclaraclara · 05/09/2024 11:16

My kids would be up in arms if we didn't have them with every type of roast!

Funderthighs · 05/09/2024 11:17

We have them with every type of roast dinner. They’re delicious 😋

Yes same with DS! He insists on them. I've tried making my own but they never rise so Aunt Bessie's it is

SpaceOP · 05/09/2024 11:31

Officially, they're for beef. But my DC would disown me if they didn't turn up with every roast dinner!

Roast potatoes obviously essential. Gravy.

Other than that, we're flexible. I do feel strongly it needs colour so carrots, squash, pumpkin for the red/yellow/orange and something green - beans, broccoli etc.

They don't rise if the heat isn't extremely high. you need to put your oil in your muffin tin, heat it up to super hot, then add your batter and back in oven.

Roguebludger · 05/09/2024 11:32

Officially with roast beef but they are my kids favourite element of all roasts so I do them with everything.

RaraRachael · 05/09/2024 11:37

Only for roast beef in our house although my XMiL used to put them with every roast dinner she made.

Sorenlorrenson · 05/09/2024 11:38

Yes, all roasts....even Christmas Dinner if I have space in the oven.

We have yorkshire puddings and stuffing with all roasts.

Alongside roast potatoes, gravy, roast parsnips, 2 or 3 other veg. Sometimes cauli cheese.

Only the condiments vary dependent on the meat.
Apple sauce or apple and chilli jelly with pork
Horseradish with Beef
Mustard with Gammon
Redcurrant jelly with venison
Cranberry sauce with chicken or turkey
Bread sauce with turkey

Ifailed · 05/09/2024 11:52

I'd trade yorkshire puddings for proper gravy made in the roasting tin without the use of powders or granules.

MillshakePickle · 05/09/2024 11:53

Yorkshire puddings for all roasts even with bangers and mash and made from scratch.

Stuffing for chicken or poultry.

Mash with roast lamb and roast potatoes with all other roasts.

Veg varies

Sometimes if feeling extra generous will do braised red cabbage, Cauliflower and cheese, or fancy glazed baby carrots.

Gravy is always homemade as well.

Shade17 · 05/09/2024 11:55

Yorkshire puddings, stuffing and bread sauce are part of chicken dinners in this house.

Tarkan · 05/09/2024 12:01

I would have them with every dinner if I could. 😁

My late uncle was a chef and he told me the trick to always get them to rise was 8 eggs per pint of milk. He said that was more important than the amount of flour you use. I stick by that and don't even measure flour now, I just go with what feels like the right consistency for the batter and I haven't had a single one fail yet.

FatmanandKnobbin · 05/09/2024 12:03

They are for every roast dinner in this house.

I buy the massive ones for leftovers the next day too and make Yorkshire pudding wraps that we dip into gravy

KnottyKnitting · 05/09/2024 12:06

I don't usually do them with chicken but that's simply because we have so many other trimmings that go with it- stuffing, chipolatas, roast potatoes and parsnips, bacon rolls and 3 different types of veg ( yes I know- it's basically a Christmas dinner!!)

I never do roast beef so we get our Yorkshire pudding fix with lamb!

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 05/09/2024 12:08

My husband used to be firmly in the 'only with beef' camp, but we've brought him round and now he makes them with every roast. He does brilliant, massive ones, they're too good not to have at every opportunity.

ExitPursuedByABare · 05/09/2024 12:10

A dear friend once served Yorkshires with a chicken dinner and since then they are a staple here.

Why do you only have with beef? Because it’s the ‘done’ thing and you thinks it common to do otherwise.? Or because you are a rule keeper in all walks of life? Or because you not really arsed about Yorkshires ? …. Genuine question…..because I don’t know a single person who says they are only for roast beef and sticks to that

SabrinaThwaite · 05/09/2024 12:14

@BooseysMom

In addition to getting the fat really hot before pouring in the batter and cooking in a hot oven, I’ve found the Mary Berry Yorkshires recipe pretty foolproof.

They are a part of every dinner involving gravy!.Im Yorkshire born and bred

Sartre · 05/09/2024 12:25

Staple constituent of a roast dinner but I refuse to have them for Christmas dinner for some reason…

Negangirlxx · 05/09/2024 12:27

Yorkshire Puddings go with every type of roast! I’ve even been known to dish them up as an accompaniment to Cottage Pie. On the odd occasion, I’ll whip myself up a plate to have as a snack. You can’t beat a good Yorkshire Pudding, especially a homemade one! 😋

I think Toby Carvery should let you have unlimited Yorkies. They’re incredibly tight with them, as far as I’m concerned!

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/09/2024 12:28

Any excuse here. Had just slabs of pudding with gooey beans and onion gravy for dinner last Sunday.
