Who would the UK's Volodymyr Zelenskyy be? (lighthearted)

I've just caught part of the documentary on BBC2 and it got me wondering - who would be the UK's equivalent of him? An actor, comedian, winner of the Ukrainian version of Dancing with the Stars. But also - someone with enough gravitas and courage to lead the country in war as the underdog against one of the world's most dangerous men.

A bit difficult to have Glenda Jackson @LadyQuackBeth as she died last year (may she rest in peace).

Michael McIntyre?

Ross Kemp?
Oh dear, I think we would be screwed

Haha this was person that popped in my head when I read this thread.

Easy, it would be Gary Neville. He even is rumoured to want to enter politics at some point in the future.

beguilingeyes · 05/09/2024 14:24

Hugh Laurie?

Spiderwmn · 05/09/2024 14:26

Daisy May Cooper

Overbearingndn · 05/09/2024 14:29

Elizabeth Hurley - she could handle anything.

MidYearDiary · 05/09/2024 14:29

Rory Stewart? Apart from the comedian, acting and Strictly credentials.

NewUserNewName · 05/09/2024 14:30

Gordon Ramsey would be the best celebrity president I can think of (granted, he’s not an actor and hasn’t been on strictly)

TitusMoan · 05/09/2024 14:33

Gervais. Would seamlessly move from comedy to leadership, but only if he wanted to.

Oh, had a much better idea. Mel and Sue. Comedy and acting chops, seem like decent human beings, played contract killers in a show I've never seen.

TurtlesDoNotPetsMake · 05/09/2024 14:42

Idris is actually a really good call!

Overbearingndn · 05/09/2024 14:46

Merry Berry, everyone loves cake although she'd have to file her nails.

RedToothBrush · 05/09/2024 14:51

Romesh Ranganathan

That'd mess with the enemy's head when he got his mum in on the case....

Zilla1 · 05/09/2024 14:54

LadyQuackBeth · 05/09/2024 12:45

At one point it might have been Eddie Izzard, but he took a turn...

Glenda Jackson maybe, or Sandi Toksvig? Peter Capaldi (as Malcolm Tucker) was a similar TV character but Armando Iannucci is the more likely to be a good leader.

Volodymyr Zelensky is a really exceptional guy though, most countries haven't got that lucky.

Capaldi and Ianucci joint ticket would be a great combination.

I'm not sure we have anyone who has played the piano with their penis on tv....

I think "Suzie" Izzard would like to give that a go

ladygindiva · 05/09/2024 15:09

Vote for Danny Dyer here. He'd take no shit from Putin .

I can just imagine him repeatedly shouting "TWAT" about Putin like he did with Cameron.

I'm leaning towards Ricky Gervais, I think.

Michael Sheen talks a good talk...

My first thought when I saw the thread title (before I read the OP) was Andy Burnham.
