I entered a post office this afternoon and the server kept glancing at me throughout my transaction of sending a small envelope tracked , then they proceeded to ask me did I have life insurance the PO can provide life cover , then upon walking away from counter after politely declining they shouted after me if I should change my mind they were always available to insure my life cover , I don’t know but upon leaving the PO I felt upset , the PO offers 7 different type of insurances and Iv been targeted with the life cover option I felt old and decrepid , yet I’m not really old as such , I didn’t enquire about this service and I felt humiliated it was put out there in a public space , didn’t see anyone else being asked , I only went in to post my letter,

Does being offered life insurance mean you're old and decrepit?
Isn't life insurance more useful taken out when your younger anyway and so you've got less conditions

Well yes a little bit silly however we all feel like this from time to time.

have a cup of tea and by the time you've drank it you will feel better 😊

Why would that offend you? I'm 34 and have life cover, don't most people?

They staff have probably been told to try and upsell that product, I work for an energy company and we have to ask everyone if they want a smart meter even if that's not what they called in for. Don't take it personally.

SquatWeightaMinute · 04/09/2024 17:52

I wouldn’t take it personally OP it’s just their product that they have to promote at this time. Last time I went in they made a huge song and dance about they can give you cash.

That was very rude of the server. They've undoubtedly been told to push Post Office products but it should be done only at the counter. They should not have shouted after you. I doubt it was to do with your age, as selling life insurance to older people isn't very profitable and misses the point! He was probably asking people randomly and choosing those he thought most likely to say yes, rather than a harrassed young mother with a screaming toddler or a great big burly bloke. Don't be upset.
