I’m being induced early on Friday currently having extreme back cramps started yesterday. Around the same time yesterday I had some constant back cramping and then it would spasm for a few seconds with intense pain. I took some pain killers and tried to sleep it off last night. Woke up this morning with mild back ache but again the spasms have started they aren’t consistent and are very random with the timings. There so painful there taking my breath away. I’m going to have a hot bath see if it helps.

It does sound like early labour yes

Mrsttcno1 · 04/09/2024 15:17

It could be! I was in slow labour for a week before my induction and that’s sort of what mine was like, lots of back ache and irregular contractions. Definitely try a bath, I spent most of that week in the bath! Good luck x

Hi there it's a labour ward midwife. Does sound like early labour. Can you send someone to Boots to get you a TENS machine? (if your local Boots sells them). Please don't hesitate to call maternity triage if your waters break, green discharge on the pad, any bleeding down below or change in baby's movements. Please don't take ibuprofen. Paracetamol is ok but don't exceed the safe daily dose. Call triage if you can't cope with pain anymore. Good luck

It's a labour ward midwife again. Approximately 1 in 4 babies are back to back in early labour. The best way to shift the baby off mum's back is to mobilise for as long as possible. Women instinctively adopt the best position to encourage the baby's rotation into the optimal position before labour kicks in earnest around 4 cm. Hot bath, TENS machine and paracetamol are good first line remedies

Please call triage so that they have you on their radar. Bon voyage!

Good luck. How exciting 🤗

Happynappy1 · 05/09/2024 01:15

called the triage was sent in for observation baby is all fine no sign of labour sent home with some codine so can finally get some sleep. Had a tiny tiny amount of spotting when I wiped once but nothing since. I think that’s from the speculum as it was very painful and I was struggling to have it done I normally find it so easy. Am in bed with my heat pack and a pad on just Incase.

Best wishes! Have you tried TENS machine yet?

Kosenrufugirl · 05/09/2024 07:11

You can use TENS machine for anything, not just labour. Latent stage of labour is up to 4 cm, it could start and stop, 3-4 days are unheard of. Now is the time to save the energy and rest. Don't hesitate to call triage again if things start picking up again. I can't say it's definitely labour. However if midwives ruled out other causes like UTI for example it's probably your body getting into gear. Good luck!
