No photos of me and my son

I'm really upset about the lack of photos of me and my newborn.
He is 5 weeks this week and I had an emergency c section so wasn't able to pick him up and take photos. I asked my husband to and he kept saying later but never did.
I feel much better so looked through my photos and there are about 10 of me actually post surgery where I look horrendous but none in the first 4 weeks. Everyone else just took their own photos.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice? In all honesty my husband just refuses to take photos. I'm upset when he's older I'll not have anything to show him as I don't even post on social media.

That's a shame. Can you ask people who visited you if they have any they can share with you? Ask visitors to take some now, too.

Can you afford to book in with a photographer for a mum and baby photoshoot? I did this with dc2 and love the photos, regret not doing it with dc1.

Yes this was my situation as well.

I had a c section and twins. Both twins were taken straight to NICU.

I then had a bad reaction to the anaesthetics and was severely unwell.

We don't have any newborn photos and the ones from a few days later I look like dog shit.

Do some of your own or book a photo shoot.

I have lots of slightly later on ones that I love.

I only have a couple of each child. Same for DH. Neither of us are very good at remembering to take photos. Even now I hardly have any of either of us with them but plenty of them. Some people aren't bothered about being in photos so it's harder to remember to take photos of the other adult with the DC.

I used to say that if i suddenly died my kids would have had no idea what i looked like. It just doesn't occur to my husband to take photos. I think I have four of me holding Dts when they were small, none of me pregnant.

We take selfies together now that they are older, when I'm granted permission!

Moral of the story, if you want photos ask him.

I took a lot of selfies. I only 2-3 of us sitting together that doesn’t have my arm out of shot.

ask for the photos

Wwyd2025 · 04/09/2024 12:58

Take selfies. A lot of mine are selfies when mine were little.

I don't have of DS for the first year. I had a Samsung phone which suffered from the swollen battery. Every time I opened the camera the phone switched off. DS is my only child too and the first year of his life was also affected by the breakdown of the marriage so some nice pictures of him would be better memories to have but there are none.

He's only five weeks old so he's still tiny, take some now. Get a remote for your phone and take some pics that way or use self timer, also treat yourself to a photo shoot for you and baby.

I think as mums we need to give up the idea that someone will snap some nice photos for us, and give up the idea that's it's embarrassing to ask or take photos yourself. It's not!

Thanks. I told my husband for the hundredth time to take some and he agreed to this weekend. Sadly I now have covid ( caught from one of his family members) at a family event and now I'm self isolating. He's 6 weeks Monday and feel like I've missed his newborn stage and there were so many cute times where I read to him or he snuggled me and my husband just refused. Got some lovely photos of baby with the visitors and husband though. I can't rewind time but just so upset. I got a selfie stick this week so hopefully I'll forget I don't have any nice ones of us for the first 2 months he was born and enjoy the next few months off with him. Thanks for the supportive comments.
