Do iPhone users see read receipts for Android?

I've searched and searched and now I'm tired of wading through the conflicting answers online.

I have an Android phone and I want to know if an iPhone user will know I've blocked them because there will be no read receipts? I can see their messages in my blocked messages.

Do you mean texts or WhatsApp's?

WhatsApp is platform independent. If you’re texting an iPhone user from your android phone you won’t be using the iMessage feature so they won’t have read receipts anyway.

Not WhatsApps, SMS text messages.

I have read receipts for them, though.

They do for me, I enabled it on Android and I do get read receipts for Apple. Most people don't enable, or know this is available, though. I guess because SMS is not so important these days.

Well a bit of googling confirms that Apple agreed to implement RCS (to incorporate it into iMessage rather than use RCS on its own) in July this year, with a commitment to implement it this year. So at some stage in 2024, you will be able to get cross-platform read receipts, typing indications and sharing of videos/photos with data rather than cellular signal. It sounds like what you are describing, however when I just tested it with a friend of mine (and we both have read receipts on) it didn’t work.

Thanks, I was trying to work out if someone will realise I've blocked them because their messages will not be showing as read, but evidently not unless they try and call (unlikely). I absolutely do have read receipts for them, though. I even tested it's accuracy when I was sitting next to them. I realise that most people gave enabled it, though.

Read receipts for SMS has always been a feature; each user can choose whether or not to allow receipts to be sent. So disable it on your side.
