Supposedly ’posh’ things you think are common *trigger warning this is light hearted*

Obviously lighthearted and no need to explain your rational. But what are things that some people consider high end/ posh/ classy/ aspirational (I know they are not necessarily the same thing) that you don’t like/ think are tacky/ common / etc.

Again this is light hearted. We can complain but we must never explain!!!!!!

Here is my list.

Molton Brown hand wash
M&S food shop
American Style Fridges
Having a tan
Talking about exercising
Beauty Advent Calendars
Designer toasters and kettles
House of Fraser department stores
Posting photos from 1st class travel on instagram
Referring to your car by its brand name
Talking about your ‘forever home’
Shopping in Space NK
Visiting Disney World
Listening to Classic FM

Eating at Miller and Carter 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I've never been but it's not meant to be anywhere near high end is it?!

Miller & Carter is the equivalent of a Harvester, but for Évoque drivers instead of Vauxhall Zafira drivers

You might want to heed the trigger warning 😉

Calling it lighthearted doesn’t stop it being sneery.

Waitingfordoggo · 03/09/2024 21:13

Cruises. They used to be posh but most of them aren’t any more. Still bloody expensive though.

Eh? I think you’ve missed the point of the thread.

No one in a million years considers a hen night crown to be posh do they? Hen dos, plastic willies, cowboys hats and all that shit has always been considered naff and tacky, even by chavs. That’s kind of the point of it.

Similarly the John McEnroe trick…have you read the title of the thread? How is that something that is considered to be posh, which you actually think is common??

Other people have hit the nail on the head with hot tubs, wine coolers, personalised number plates etc.

You’ve, um, missed a joke there. Not the funniest ever, I’ll admit.

Like wot the queen had?🙄

And Malcolm McLaren (Sex Pistols for benefit of youngsters). Was absolutely stunning. Was in a taxi and the police asked us to stop for it to go through.

Surely not?

I’m still using the products I hoarded acquired during Covid when Penhaligon’s had some very reasonable prices.

Edited

Two for £28 in my local outlet.

Brightredtulips · 03/09/2024 21:15

People describing their back garden as the garden. "I'm in the garden"

Schools with nicknames (I dont know any, I see them in thread titles)

I’m dying laughing at “Scotland” here in Scotland because I fear it’s true😂😂😂😂😂

Since they closed Jenners and then the Queen died at Balmoral, it's all gone downhill.

ProvincialLady2024 · 03/09/2024 21:17

Immaculate houses with matchy furniture sets.

Do you remember those bath oil balls? you kept them in a glass jar in your bathroom. Occasionally you'd use one- you put them in the bath and they sort of melted. They were proper posh.

Edited

Was that the body shop ones? Little erm, smelly balls? I'm sure they had a posher name than that 😂🙈
Oh gosh, I'm cringing writing this but if you mean those ones you could choose a few different colours in, my bloody mother told me they were free samples and I would just go in and casually take them. (Same with the little pens from argos). I wasn't subtle either, just pop in, spray some vanilla musk and take a couple of the balls!

MrsMitford3 · 03/09/2024 21:18

Posh. I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Slalomsfathoms · 03/09/2024 21:18

Serviette, settee, toilet and trifle😱

Nobody believes these are ‘posh’.

Are we just naming things that ‘common’ people say/like now?

I do not get the obsession with class on Mumsnet, thread after thread about it.

Try and respect everyone whether they live in a run down council flat or an old estate in the country. People like different things, shocker. This constant sneering at other people is really not nice, ‘lighthearted’ or not.

Papyrophile · 03/09/2024 21:19

Far, far too serious most of you. You almost sound as if you are reading this thread attentively.

DestroyEverythingYouTouch · 03/09/2024 20:14

Forcing guests to take their shoes off at the door because you have a glaring white carpet that you obviously can't afford to have cleaned.

People aren't asking you to take your shoes off to be posh, it's because they don't want crap tracked all over the house.

Simply frightful.

I presume the non-royal sort (in white and gold) is mimicking the royal sort but ending up all Katie Price.

FYI - a sense of humour is now back in fashion
