What do people think happened to missing Andrew Gosden?

Just curious.

i sadly thought the arrests would come to nothing a couple of years ago, but it sucked to be right.

This is someone's much loved child. And you are 'just curious'.

Is it really helpful to speculate on what happened - particularly when no one knows? What would you hope to achieve? I think your post is inappropriate.

This. Someone's loved one being missing is not a source of idle speculation.

WhitstablePearl · 03/09/2024 15:51

I hope he's still alive, somehow. I often think about him.

I think discussions on his case could raise awareness, jog a memory etc

OKherewegoagain · 03/09/2024 15:51

'Just Curious' I am sure his poor parents will be first to tell you should they ever get peace of mind.

Unless this case, and countless others like it, stay in the public eye, the families will never get answers. I am confident that Andrew's parents don't want the world to forget about him, and if some respectful speculation can help keep Andrew's story alive, all the better. There is probably someone out there who knows something, that they might not even realise is critical, that could hold the answer as to what happened to him.

Sethera · 03/09/2024 16:06

@Lovefromjuliaxo You might want to ask MNHQ to move this to the True Crime and Unsolved Mysteries topic, as in Chat you'll get a lot of people disagreeing with the principle of discussing the case.

PenelopePitStrop · 03/09/2024 16:12

It’s as well to keep him in the public eye, but not to speculate.

Ongoing strength to his family.

Buddenbruchs · 03/09/2024 16:17

You need to go on the Reddit sub. There’s a whole one about him that’s fairly busy. His dad has answered questions on it indirectly and apparently is well aware it exists. They have always been happy to get publicity even to the extent of handing out fliers.

TheCultureHusks · 03/09/2024 16:17

I don’t see this as a bad post. To be honest I’m more 🙄 about some of the answers. OP doesn’t know him, and so no she isn’t necessarily giving the virtue signalling lots of 😪😪 along with her post. I am sure Andrew’s parents would rather see random members of the public still post, still wonder, still boost the mentions of his name.

Or delete it and the OP can add to the long running thread about Andrew

I agree curious is a little insensitive

CalicoPusscat · 03/09/2024 16:21

There are lots of missing people I wonder about and hope are found but that's the extent of it really.

Yes, sorry if I worded it wrongly, it’s the sort of thing someone on Reddit would post. I just meant respectful discussion, it’s good to keep him in the public eye.

His dad tends to avoid the Reddit sub, I don’t blame him. I am on it.

Thankyou. Yes, curious was maybe the wrong word but I just wanted an open discussion and hadn’t seen a new thread for a long time..I think it’s good to keep him in the public eye, he went missing around the same time as Madeline McCann and got nowhere near the publicity.

It is a matter of public knowledge and consequently a perfectly proper matter for debate/discussion.

I apologise if the way I worded it offended you, I just think it’s good to keep this case in the public eye and hadn’t seen a new thread for a while.

Sorry again for the wording guys, I think I should’ve worded it differently here to the way it’s spoken about on places like Reddit. I just wondered, as it is a very public case, if anyone had any thoughts on what may have happened to him, their opinion. Andrew’s father knows a subreddit exists but doesn’t use it, and is totally fine with any respectful discussion as it brings more attention to Andrew’s case. Hope that clears things up.

among all the Madeline McCann publicity and more recently Jay slater who was found, I sometimes think how little publicity this poor boy gets. Not minimising MM case of course. Andrew Gosden actually went missing not long after Madeline McCann.

i am a little worried about putting my opinion across now on what I think happened.

I think Andrew may have met someone at/because of going to the camp he attended during the summer before he went missing.

Him taking the train alone into London was so out of character, and based on what he took with him, and most importantly what he didn't, it did not appear in that he planned to leave permanently.

His case is so remarkable because of the glaring lack of evidence, especially in our digital age. He didn't have a cell phone, no email, no Internet at home, and no activity on the computers at school. This makes it likely that whatever/whoever enticed him to go to London that day was something or someone he encountered in real life. He had also stopped taking the bus on the way home from school for the few days of the new school year before he went missing, and decided to walk, which could have provided him the opportunity to meet with someone his parents weren't aware of.

I have thought of him and the circumstances of his disappearance countless times. It genuinely has prevented me from sleeping on a few occasions when my mind can't shut off. If the police hadn't fucked up the initial investigation, his family might have the answers they need. Andrew was a sweet, intelligent boy, and he deserves to be found.

It is odd, because he bought a single ticket - made a point of buying one when the ticket seller told him the return was only £2 more, which is why the ticket seller remembered him. That could be read as a 'statement' that he was making a one-way journey.

I’ve seen this theory, I thought it was a possibility but the course was actually the summer prior, so around a year before he went missing. I guess it’s possible if the groomer was playing a long game, but I always thought feelings (romantic or friendship) on Andrew’s side would’ve dissipated after a year.

saying that, Andrew’s friend said to the press that he changed and became more reclusive at secondary school, so maybe he was lonely enough to keep that contact.

he lost two phones but neither turned up when the police ransacked the house and part of me thinks he swapped a SIM card in one of them and kept it quiet.

personally I think he was likely groomed by someone closer to home, so not on the internet. But the possibilities are endless as the police did mess up the investigation and concentrated too much on Andrew’s father.

His parents talked about that. They said that was very much something Andrew would do, in terms of not doing what most people would think is the most logical thing to do, i.e. save money by buying a return ticket ahead of time. Andrew was a very bright boy, but he was also quite inexperienced and still very young. I think him leaving the charger of his PSP at home is much more telling than not buying the return ticket.

Such a sweet looking kid.

Sad how many go missing, never to be found ❤️‍🩹

much love to his family x

A charge on a psp would last several days, it’s not like phones of today. I will say that I do think he intended to be back though. Unfortunately I think he was groomed.
