No idea what I want to do with my life.

I have 2DC and a DH that I adore and I'm very happy. I'm a SAHM, but lately I have thought about what I would do if I wanted to get a job and I honestly have no idea what I want to do. I have A Levels but no degree, and the jobs before I've had I don't want to do again(retail, receptionist, customer service, hospitality). I can't actually find any part time jobs of any category that aren't weekends, but I don't know at all what I want to do and I feel so lost Sad I've never enjoyed any job I had, I never found them fulfilling or mentally stimulating, but then again I don't have a degree, so I'm not really qualified for anything. Ift would need to be a part time job to begin with. Did anyone else experience this and if so, what did you do?

Sounds like you need a career for fulfilment rather than just a job.

It helps to look at all the sectors and choose which one suits you most. Then see what’s available within it. Then you can see what pathways to take to get there by what qualifications are needed and some googling.

What are your interests?
What do you enjoy doing.
If my circumstances were slightly different to what they are I would have set up a secondhand children's books/toy selling business years ago because I love children's books and toys !

I am in exactly the same boat. It's so hard to find something that doesn't want recent experience or a degree. I have neither, and I don't have thousands of pounds to get a degree either. It's hard isn't it.
I have done some free courses hoping they might give me some ideas or direction but I've found them really boring to be honest.

how long have you been out of the workforce?

orangeyfox · 04/09/2024 19:49

@probster I was working part time from September to early this year and haven't been working since. Prior to that I had a year out of work.

@Needmorelego reading fiction novels, spending time with my DH and DC and that is pretty much it. And the theatre/ballet.

@OriginalUsername2 you're absolutely right about fulfilment, but I literally can't think of anything I'd be interested in doing that doesn't require a degree or experience, although I can't even find a career that interests me at all regardless of the requirements. I feel utterly lost.

What about finding a charity to volunteer with to get a bit of work experience? Might help you find a line of work you enjoy.
