TV shows like Outnumbered & Modern Family

14yo DD's favourite programme when younger was Outnumbered and she now loves Modern Family but has watched it so many times she is getting a bit bored. It's the semi-realistic family life where they face minor problems but you know it's going to work out and they'll all end up living happily ever after that makes it perfect cosy TV watching for her.
I've been trying to think of something similar and failed! She finds Friends dull and fake.
Half hour episodes and plenty of series would be a bonus! We have every streaming platform possible it seems.

Life in pieces on Amazon prime- so funny, there’s a few series before it was cancelled.

The Middle it's a great little show and very under rated. It stars Patricia Heaton and the janitor from Scrubs

I remember 8 Simple Rules which was a bit like Modern Family but a bit more aimed at the teenagers in the programme. Very likeable though.

TaylorSwish · 03/09/2024 09:19

Malcom In The Middle is brilliant.

Octavia64 · 03/09/2024 09:20

Not contemporary but Downtom Abbey sort of has the same vibe?

CapitanSandy · 03/09/2024 09:21

8 simple rules(Disney plus) the middle (itv X) Everybody loves Raymond, The King of Queens( both channel 4) American Housewife( Disney plus)

TheMarzipanDildo · 03/09/2024 09:22

The Durrells?

Fimbledore · 03/09/2024 09:24

Definitely The Middle.
8 Simple Rules was good too but only two series, and the actor who played the dad died, which was upsetting as they wrote that into the script.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 03/09/2024 09:26

Also as she is getting a bit older Miranda and Frasier. Brilliant shows.

RobinHood19 · 03/09/2024 09:29

Big Bang Theory but it’s not about a family, similar to Friends in that there’s a social group who live together and their couples, families etc as the series goes on. It’s more modern than Friends so it could appeal…

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/09/2024 09:30

Parks And Recreation ! It's so good when it gets going

Pascha · 03/09/2024 09:30

Friday Night Dinner

Caferouge · 03/09/2024 09:31

The Middle is brilliant.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 03/09/2024 09:31

My teen loves Motherland. As did l. We must have watched it together about 3 times.

spamandeggs · 03/09/2024 09:31

Definitely 8 simple Rules and maybe Boy meets world

IfeellikeaJoan · 03/09/2024 09:31

The Goldbergs?

coastingcoffee · 03/09/2024 09:33

The Middle is brilliant and I think its on ITVX.

Parks and Rec also plus Frasier would also be my recommendations. 30 Rock is also good.

Doggymummar · 03/09/2024 09:36

I loved Schitts Creek, maybe too old for her, not sure what teenagers watch. Modern family and outnumbered were great.

Octavia64 · 03/09/2024 09:20

Agree. Every problem is tied in a neat bow by the end of each episode. No cliffhangers.

FlowersOfSulphur · 03/09/2024 09:39

She might enjoy Big Bang Theory. It's not family based, but about a small group of close friends who are almost like family. They are geeky rather than trendy and it's a fun, light-hearted show that ran for about a decade I think, so should keep her going for a while!

ArabellaFishwife · 03/09/2024 09:39

I was going to say The Middle too, and yes, it's on ITVX. I've been waiting years to watch it without paying a subscription.

Kdub · 03/09/2024 09:41

Young Sheldon is great as well

I don't know how many series there were but I thought they continued with the grandad and an older cousin?

FlowersOfSulphur · 03/09/2024 09:43

Also, what about The Office? The American version ran for years, so lots to get through. Again, it's not a family as such, but a close-knit group of office workers and the thrills and spills that go with that (it's honestly a lot more fun than I've made it sound here!).
