Most kids are back to school this week, so how did your summer holidays go?

No days off but enjoyed having them around when we didn't have worries however as soon as there back the school have put me forwards for a fsw which we do not need they've put other families forwards so I know it's just to help however I had no financial or moral support during summer holidays and I just wan to get the kids to and from school without the feeling of being judged

But who’s judging you?

DS got his GCSE results, three 7, five 6 and a 4. He's happy.

We went to Portugal where he played computer games and didn't want to join in much so I swam and explored on my own. The hotel & town were lovely, great food, very friendly, perfect weather 😎

Then we've had the angst of 6th form clothes. He isn't interested in clothes and the school said 'collared shirts, no jeans', so I got him skinny chinos, cotton short sleeve shirts and a couple of decent hoodies.

First day he moaned he looked like a nerd and it was all my fault. Why couldn't he wear t-shirts? Then came home and said the school said 'no hoodies'. Shame they didn't tell me that. I specifically asked. So yesterday I was out looking for basic crew neck sweaters that won't go floppy, and that he'll wear, in cotton. He won't wear wool.

Scoured the H&M and Next sites and found one. Tried local shops and found none. 🙄

I know he's too old, but uniform was a lot easier.

What's an fsw?

Dd enjoyed it, she got to do some things she hadn’t done before. Tbh we went for too long and I was itching to get back home. She went to some summer clubs and I really noticed how much more confident she’s becoming, that was really lovely to notice. She used to be extremely shy around other kids, now she’ll run after someone to say bye or actively try to make friends. I used to worry about it so it’s been nice seeing her develop.

They mix up the classes in her school so was a bit concerned about her finding new friends but it sounds like she’s had a great first week. She did struggle a bit with mood after school but on the whole a good start.

I had to buy new school trousers etc after we came back because she had a gained a bit of tummy but now her trousers are hanging off her butt. May have to try to find the old uniform and see if she can get into that, thank god I’m too disorganised to have got rid of it yet.

Any good? Sainsbury's TU clothing range is brilliant for this type of thing, and very reasonable!
It's 100% pure cotton.

Order online to collect from your branch if they're not in store.
Honestly bloody love TU clothing, I've found their school uniform to be excellent quality too.
Look out for their regular 25% off clothing promotions.
I tend to stock up then😂

We had a great summer, holiday, days out, a few days visiting family mixed up with doing absolutely nothing.

DH is a teacher and I WFH and we were all getting on each other's nerves towards the end so it nice to have a bit of time away from each other now 😂

Most kids are back to school this week, so how did your summer holidays go?

We just got back from a week away and it honestly feels like the minute you unpack, it’s already time to think about uniforms and pencil cases again! How was your summer holiday? Do you do anything special to mark the end of summer and the start of the new school year, or just roll straight back into it?
