Patch testing/allergy testing - hairdresser?

How is a patch or allergy testing done in hairdressers.

I never got my hair coloured or dyed in my life before until this year. I got some of my hair lightening with a fashion colour/dye applied. Followed by some highlights and more fashion colour.

My hairdresser never did a patch test on me.

I will have another appointment in a few weeks and my hairdresser never said anything to me about a patch test.

I have another different thread going here with a poster talking about patch testing which prompted this.

Is the onus on me or my hairdresser to get a patch test done?

Think they put a little bit of dye on your neck a few days ahead of appt. My hairdresser won’t do it without patch test. They are very strict so ask every time.

They usually put a dab of the product behind your ear and you leave it for 24/48 hours. If there’s no adverse reaction, you’re OK to have the colour.

They rub a little bit of the solution behind your ear. I had it done several times. Then randomly I reacted. Mild enough at first so I could use ammonia free semi permanent dye. One day a few years later things got worse again. Now I have embraced the grey. Not much choice really!
