Clindamycin - tooth infection experiences please

I'm allergic to penacillin. The tooth infection is mild but didn't go with the last round of antibiotics.

The side effects of Clindamycin seem horrific, I'm really worried about taking it.

Could you share your experience?

I was given Clindamycin (don't remember for what) and it made me very ill, but so do most antibiotics (also can't take Penicillin)
The only two antibiotics that haven't given me horrible side effects are Doxycycline and Metronidazole (which I had for a dental infection)
Everyone is different though, some people can't tolerate the last two, but are fine on the ones that have made me feel so ill I couldn't move!

Thanks so much, I've had Metronidazole with no side effects at all, but I'm terrified of the effects of this one.

I had the same thing and I put off taking it as I was so worried after reading online. Eventually I took it, with a big glass of water following the directions exactly. It was totally fine!

I can't help with this specific antibiotic but I've had to have antibiotics a few times over the past year, each time I'd google them and read some horrific reviews and be in an absolute panic about taking them, but each time luckily I was fine and I'm sure you will be too.

The thing with googling stuff is you'll rarely read good things about it as people only usually seek support or share negative experiences. I have to remind myself that with infections, the alternative of not taking them is more likely to be worse than the slight risk of minor side effects. You'll be fine!

Yes, it didn't make me feel too ill at all. It was a few years ago, but I remember just feeling slightly queasy and a bit of that sort of heavy feeling in my stomach I always get with antibiotics. But with others I've felt too sick to even sit up, really bad pains in stomach, numbness and pins and needles in legs etc. So Metronidazole was a breeze compared to most of the others for me.

Antibiotics won't 'cure' a tooth issue, you usually need proper treatment like a root canal or an extraction.
Resistance to antibiotics is becoming a real issue, I'd try to avoid taking them as much as possible too! And they can kill all the 'good' bacteria in your gut and take a while to get back to normal.

I only take them when absolutely forced to! But when I needed a root canal, I had to take antibiotics first to calm down the infection before the dentist could do it.
And when I took the Metronidazole more recently, it did cure the infection.
I think (hope) most dentists and GPs only prescribe them when it's really necessary.
