What do you do on the last day of the summer holidays?

It's tomorrow for us. I have the day off. I feel like we should make the most of it and "do" something. We usually go to the beach/seaside funfair/fish and chips . Lucky to live very close.

Lots of schools in our area are back tomorrow but ours is back on Wednesday so we're making the most of it and heading to the zoo! I hate the zoo when it's busy.

mynameiscalypso · 02/09/2024 13:29

DS is back to school tomorrow. I've hung out with him all morning playing some of his favourite games and his best friend is coming over later for a play date.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/09/2024 13:33

We are flying back to London from Ireland. School starts tomorrow and my son has had three playdate requests so I think everyone is gearing up for the new term and the children are getting their social posses lined up.

MuggleMe · 02/09/2024 13:49

Something low key, ideally with a reason to get up early, the last thing I need is overtired kids. They're getting haircuts at 9 then we'll got for brunch or cake and a playdate in the afternoon.

WhatNoRaisins · 02/09/2024 14:03

We prefer low key. Mine are usually pretty tired and out of sorts by the end of the holidays. Ideally the weather is nice and we do something outside.

Xiaoxiong · 02/09/2024 14:05

We often have a playdate with a friend they haven't seen all summer. It seems to take away some of the first day of school nerves if they've just seen someone from school, and it all went ok!

MissyB1 · 02/09/2024 14:10

We always go out for brunch, so that will be tomorrow for us.

Kim82 · 02/09/2024 14:13

It’s back to school tomorrow for my youngest dd aged 10. I asked what she wanted to do today and she said absolutely nothing. She wanrs to just have a pj day at home so that’s exactly what we’re doing. She’s currently upstairs in her room making something out of cardboard.

Sanch1 · 02/09/2024 14:14

Going to work, kids will be with my mum! We've had two separate weeks off where we've 'done stuff' and they've just had a week away with their dad so they have been well entertained.

Is this real? How braggy….

longdistanceclaraclara · 02/09/2024 14:29

Mine go back Thursday. We had a last day out at the beach yesterday, they are seeing friends tomorrow and Wednesday will be a sort shit out day.

monkeypuzzlemaceplayce · 02/09/2024 15:34

My eldest goes back Thursday but my youngest is back Tuesday so didn't really think of planning much. Eldest is doing GCSEs and has mocks so stressed about that and not in the mood for fun. Youngest is grumpy and miserable about going back and is pretending she is sick already!

Trust me, Ryanair is not that special. And it is raining both ends.

Didn't read this as braggy hardly the Maldives and a play date at Charlotte and George's.

ToddlerMumma · 02/09/2024 16:59

Ours is today. We went out for lunch then ten pin bowling followed by ice cream. Fun day

Allnewtometoo · 02/09/2024 17:24

Dc want to do the beach again. Not sure the weather is on our side but if all else fails they like the pool/bowling.

reluctantbrit · 02/09/2024 17:26

We normally had cake or ice cream for lunch and dinner was pizza or other junk food with a movie.

Tooty78 · 02/09/2024 17:29

Judging by the out the of town shopping centre here, everyone had taken their kids there today! Monday is usually pretty quiet, but it was rammed. JD Sports and Sports Direct seemed to be exceptionally busy.

beryldaperil · 02/09/2024 18:08

Ours seems to be a mad rush for uniform/ rucksacks/ water bottles etc/ school supplies

A pair of twins always invite one DS the day before school start for a birthday party. It always is such a faff. The other DS is always disappointed. Been about 4 years running that they do it.

sangriaandsunshineplease · 02/09/2024 18:17

I'm taking the day off and we'll go out & do something in the morning (tennis perhaps) and then lunch and then home for a lazy afternoon. At about 4pm, I will suggest they do a final check of their pencil cases etc and then there will be shrieks as it turns out they don't actually have everything they've been promising me they have

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 02/09/2024 18:24

Look forward to the following day!

Make sure the pack-ups are made and filled, the kids know where all of their uniform bits are and that they fit, encourage them to have a shower, and then get them to bed half an hour earlier than the last 6 weeks.

Other than that, we don't generally do anything special.

Crunchymum · 02/09/2024 18:53

Usually mine go back on a random middle of the week day and I've already used a tonne of annual leave to cover the holidays so they either go to granny's or have a lazy day whilst I work.

TheChosenTwo · 02/09/2024 18:57

Ds is back on Wednesday and I’m working tomorrow.
He’s going for a slap up breakfast with his dad and then they’re both going for a haircut. Other than that, he’ll come home and relax for the rest of the day I imagine. He’s a teenager though 😂
if I had taken the day did we’d probably go out and get some lunch and have a stroll somewhere nice. Just low key though, nothing too strenuous.

TheGriffle · 02/09/2024 18:57

Ours go back tomorrow. We have had a lie in, been to Homebargains for some sweets and other household bits, found all the bags and lunchboxes etc and been to a swimming lesson. Packed lunches still to sort and uniform to get out then hair wash, shower and bed.

notanarchaeologist · 02/09/2024 19:00

I asked DS how he wanted to spend it so we've been to the climbing centre, got a ridiculously large milkshake, played 3 hours of board games and went to the library where I read approximately 40000 books 🙃

In one of the books though we were introduced to the Mantis Shrimp. Which, if you've never heard of I recommend looking up. It's one hell of a critter!!!
