Need a handhold - in hospital 😭

I thought I had another chest infection this week I’ve suffered from a few this year, got put on standard steroids and antibiotics by gp but woke up today feeling worse.

Long story short 111 put me to gdocs who then sent me to hospital. Been told I have pneumonia, but also they think I have something else underlying making my immune system so rubbish and they are keeping me in to treat the pneumonia as well as to run all kinds of scans and tests to look for the other cause of my crappy health/recurring infections.

im only 32 and have 2 small children at home and to be honest I’ve just got myself into such a state worrying about what’s going to happen. i just need to be here for my kids my minds doing overtime.

anyone else been in a similar situation? terrified of what they might find.

I havent been through anything similar - apart from small child exhaustion.
Have you possibly had covid recently?

Edited - wasn't particularly helpful (I've currently got covid brain fog).
You are in the best place. Hope you get answers soon.

BCBird · 01/09/2024 19:36

Sending you my best wishes OP. They need to get to the bottom.of this do you can get back on your feet. Take care

MontyVerdi · 01/09/2024 19:38

Hello from another Aberdeen dweller here. I think everyone gets tense when in for tests but it could be that your vitamin levels/ferritin are low and with running around after kids etc a chest infection became pneumonia. It takes time to get better after pneumonia so take it easy. 💐

Really sorry OP

I had pneumonia a few times. It might be that they don’t find anything and you are run down

also sometimes a different antibiotic knocks it on the head.

I ended up being given the vaccine, have you had that?

wish you better asap 💐

BarbaraHoward · 01/09/2024 19:49

I'm so glad they're taking you seriously at least. As you've experienced, women of childbearing age so often have to run themselves into the ground before getting the medical attention they need.

Hopefully they'll find a cause and it'll be something easily sorted like a vitamin deficiency. In the meantime get as much rest as you can. Flowers

Yes me, I was diagnosed with neutropenia
Still here Smile and fine

AdaColeman · 01/09/2024 20:02

Oh you poor soul, wonder you are feeling low. But you must focus on getting well again, and you are in the best place to get help with that.
Pneumonia can be very debilitating, so resting, and drinking plenty of fluids will help you recover quickly.
All the best to you for a good recovery, try to stay strong and positive.
Thanks Thanks

babyno2isdue · 01/09/2024 20:06

I'm sure all will be ok, I was in hosp last year for pneumonia and sepsis also with 2 young
Children, made a full recovery and they also did every test under the sun. It is a worrying time but try and see it as reassuring that they are making sure your 100% well before sending you home. I had never felt healthier when leaving hospital.

Haven’t have covid recently (that I’m aware of) but they tested me today and it was negative. Thank you 🙏

Thank you so much, it is probably thing I am worst at is making sure I am well. Life just gets so busy and it feels like the kids wellbeing is just always taking priority which I’ve never grudged - but I guess I never feel like I have the headspace to think about if I’m meeting my health needs by the end of the day.

I’m glad to hear they were that thorough with yourself too, I never expected it thought it would just be the case of fixing the immediate problem and off you go. It’s rocked me thinking there could be something else serious or smaller underlying going forward.

You will be fine. Its standard to do tests and scans when in hospital. I ha e had pneumonia when i was 20 and had cts xrays bloods etc etc. You will be fine. Pneumonia is curable and mainly life threatening in very elderly or severe immuno compromised patients etc im sure u will be home in a day or so

Aberdeenusername · 02/09/2024 00:40

Sorry I took so long to reply my DH came in to visit me tonight when he had someone to sit in the house to babysit. Currently lying in bed wishing I could sleep to aid recovery but just can’t I’m just far too aware of my shallow breathing to relax enough to sleep 😔😔😔😔

Thank you 🙏 they keep saying to me I’m young to be in here for this, so to hear you were I with this at 20 doesn’t make me feel so “un-normal”

Oh and i am 40 and have a serious stomach issue. I havr had 10 abdo surgeries since January 2024 and have another surgery in 6 weeks so i know full well what its like being a patient. I have 4 children and its really tough. Im certain you will be ok and home in no time with a full bill of health. Good luck op

brightdazzling · 02/09/2024 00:45

Oh how stressful, I'm not surprised you're worried. But you are in the best place and hopefully will be on the mend soon.

Sorry you're struggling to sleep. Could you close your eyes and listen to a podcast and try to rest your body even if you can't sleep (and hopefully you might doze off)? I like the calm app and nothing much happens podcasts. Proper resting is also good for recovery.

Airyfairy99 · 02/09/2024 00:45

Im 40 now is what i meant to say . I had pneumonia when i was 20 and i felt so poorly so i hope you arenot feeling too rough. I could hardly breathe and kept going boiling hot then freezing. Hugs x

That’s me going from roasting to hot, to covered in goosebumps or waking up just drenched in cold sweats just feels rubbish. But the breathing is the worst. Just feels so scary to not feel like you can take a full breathe or you have to consciously breathe.

This is exactly what I’ve been trying funnily but to no avail at least it’s less boring though I suppose when you’re not getting any sleep to hear something you want to listen to! Haven’t tried the calm app though so away to go a download. Thanks xxx

My mum had pneumonia when she was 50 so older than you, she also had lots of tests done and was really ill from it. She recovered well and has been fine since (15 years ago). Hope you get some sleep!

How are you doing? Hope you managed to get some rest and are feeling better this morning.

Yes I know what you mean re that type of dull podcast. Sometimes I give up and treat myself to something I actually do want to listen to!
