The idea of this thread is for it to be a bit of a Self Care/Self Improvement thread. So we list anything, however mundane, we think would make us our best selves. The type of things we know we should do or already do or have done with the idea of making them the norm for you. Hope that makes sense.

I'll start very basic.

... who drinks 3L of water a day
... who keeps a 2 mo the hair appointment
... who gets enough sleep every night

I did say mundane! Will be interested to hear others' ideas to add to my plan to Self improve!

To stop storing boxes of things (for 10 years plus 🤔) that I will NEVER use 'just in case'.

@abracadabra1980 If it's any consolation to you, I cleaned out the cupboard under the sink at the beginning of the summer. One of the things I threw away were baby's bottle sterilising tablets.

My baby is 19...

Should have kept them for wiping round, sterilising the dishcloth or just throwing down the sink or loo!

I want to be the type who is more pro active rather than constantly reactive. So eg making sure I log off on time so that I'm not running late to pick the kids up.

Renew car/house insurance 3wks before renewal to get a good price

Actually do the tasks on my to do list rather than relist them constantly.

This was me all last year, Last minute and procrastination. It's really hard. I do think the little steps help.

Hopping into bed tired but happy, tho later than I'd hoped. I spent the last few hours setting myself up for the week ahead so that I can more smoothly put these things into practice. Clothes are laud out for the morning, clothes for the week are ironed and hanging on small clothes rail. My lunch for tomorrow and DCs are made and in the fridge. I have all my activities (dc), to dos, meals and daily intentions logged in my diary.

Here's to a good week ahead for us all!

I so needed this thread, i weighed myself yesterday, i 'm now in triple digits Confused
I am piling on the weight at a rate of knots!!!
Therefore I would like to be the person who does not shovel shite food down my throat like it's going out of fashion, furthermore i need to make better food choices, ( i.e i will not have a Greggs bacon sandwich on my way to work because it's Monday/Friday: the weekend, the weather's nice, I've just been paid, I've got a free one in my app)
I also aspire to be the kind of person who does the magical 10k steps a day,
I have the laziest dog known to man, he was not impressed with the sharp increase in walks today 🤣
Today - didn't eat shit, had x 1 chocolate digestive as a treat before bed,
( i then rushed upstairs to brush my teeth before I could change my mind as everyone knows that once the teeth are brushed before bed that is the signal to say ' eating has now ceased until breakfast)

focus more with projects , i suspect Adhd but not sure

I'm going to get my old bullet journal out as well and re=start that process.

@mikado1 I forgot that I used to be very good at laying out my clothes the night before- complete with jewellery and stockings/ socks etc. That made the mornings so much easier but I have let that slide lately. I think I will put that back into my life also.

Today I need to make a thorough review of my clothes. Too many things I have held onto because one day I'd lose weight to get into them and which are now out of fashion. Too many things that I bought because they fit- but aren't really my style.

I am a fan of a youtuber Jennifer L Scott and she advocates for a Ten Item wardrobe- basically that each season you take stock of your clothes. You keep what you still like, donate or sell what you no longer appreciate and then fill in the gaps of your wardrobe. It's not a great deal more complicated than that, and I am not in a position to buy a complete new wardrobe (no matter how small) 4 times a year- but the essence of it is that you only have in your wardrobe what fits you, what suits you and what is standing up to the job. I like that idea. I'm 51 and never found my style.

Isn't it funny how the simple thing of deciding and laying it out seems a huge deal when you have to pick it anyway in the morning? I hope I can keep this one going. Lovely to wake up to it and yes have underwear ready also. I have done a wardrobe stock take. Would love to know the ten items, that sounds a great idea and would definitely focus the mind.

SugarHorseSpooks would it help to kist 2 or 3 v measurable intentions to start with and build from there? "More focus' might be too general. Im trying to think in terms of what I need to do to bring about consistent change.

@scorcio5 Good for you! Biscuits are my downfall so one of mine is going to be only one biscuit per cup of tea.

I'd like to be the sort of person who....

  • eats 3 reasonably healthy meals a day
  • does 30 minutes of exercise a day
  • drinks 2L of water a day
  • brushes teeth before bed
  • takes make up off before bed
  • reads every day
  • does 10,000 steps a day
WheresMySupportCat · 02/09/2024 07:20

This link is where Jennifer puts her 10 item wardrobe videos. I've been following her for years but this is the first time I have decided to follow the principles. Usually I rely on supermarket clothes and what fits rather than paying proper attention. As a result I am very dowdy!

Morning all . Good luck to everyone who downloaded the habit tracker yesterday and hope you have a successful day. I've used it for a few years now but have been extremely sloppy past few months so today is my day 1 too

mikado1 · 02/09/2024 08:41

... moisturises my neck and decolletage- so surprised at the difference this has made so I want to keep it up.

After all my organisation for the smoothest of days, I drove about 200m and my petrol light went off! Doh!! 😆

@mikado1 Very true! I always use spf on my face but not on my neck and you can see the difference! 🙄

Just checking in to say I bought my navy blue jeans I was after!

Today i went mooching around town and after quite a while found exactly what I am after. At £80 is was more than I expected, considering I am used to Tesco, but it had the precise look I was after. very dark navy blue, few seams, sits high on the waist (I am a classic apple).

I am very pleased.

Using this thread to make myself accountable,

  • 10k steps 🙌
  • made healthy food choices 🙌

However did not manage to drink 2L water per day, did approx 1.5L,

Continued to stick to my x 1 chocolate biscuit per day, however I did sniff the packet after the first one and toyed with the idea of breaking 1 in half , ( does that count as success 🤔😂

Just to note, this is soooo unlike me it's untrue, I have never had an ounce of self control, hence the reason for the XL uniform 🙈

I can only put it down to recently going on HRT, tis magic I tell ya 😂

Long may the motivation continue

Hope everyone else has had a productive day ☺️

Disturbia81 · 02/09/2024 22:52

Ace thread! I find I have to make a list and cross it off every day otherwise it doesn't get done.
Why is taking care of ourselves so hard, when it makes us feel good?
I guess lazy is just always easier especially after busy days, but then at some point we feel worse for it

Well done!

I did

  • got my step count in
  • went to my fitness class
  • read for at least 15 min
  • drank 2 bottles of water
  • got my fruit and veg in

Need to do the same today but the class is replaced with couch to 5k. Next week will be tougher as I start a new job but I will build it in to my day, meal prep on Sunday etc.

Using the habit tracker helped as last night I had done everything aside from read and I really couldn't be bothered, But having ' read for 15 min ' as one of the habits that I needed to tick off, made me do it as I didn't want to fail ! Enjoyed my new book too.

ZenNudist · 03/09/2024 08:26

Goes to bed at 10.30
Doesn't eat snacks all evening
Avoids sugar

Thus is lent me. I can't keep it up normally.

WheresMySupportCat · 03/09/2024 08:30

Right! I am feeling very motivated.

I am going to book a hair cut today. Just a simple bob, nothing too radical.

I have not yet managed to swap my daily wine for sparkling water but THAT starts today as well. My skin is looking dehydrated.

Tmpnmc86 · 03/09/2024 09:46

Doesn't have 50,000 spam emails sat around.

So from today I'm unsubscribing to anything that comes in each day and deleting every email from that business.
It's going to be a slow process but quite satisfying so far.

I did that last weeks. Two empty inboxes and organised folders feels great (work and personal)

Well done to pps, the habit tracker or a lost sounds like a real help. I've had my walk already which is a good start to my new part time hours. 12k steps in the bag.
