My daughter's thinking about A level options and I thought I'd ask here.

Lots of people say nursinf/teaching isnt well paid (35-45 once established) so I'm curious as to what you can plan to go into that pays more. It's not really in my realm of expertise.

Obviously there's doctors and lawyers and programming but there's all these general jobs that people go into what do they look like and how?

The other things she wondered about are optometry and psychologist but I know the psychologist route is hard.

People seem to switch careers on mn is that more general "business" jobs. And what are they? Project management? I do t really know. Do you just do any degree and a graduate programme or can you go into that world a different way?

Thankyou

I had a go on chatgpt and thought it wasn't bad on this topic, too much info to paste, but tried prompts about different subjects a student may like and their personalities eg likes working with teams or independently and resulting possible careers, then asking to rank those careers in order of highest paid

Here are the careers I would be discussing with my children:

1- Hedge fund manager. Almost impossible to get in. Ask them to research entry points and they will find a variety of different ways to make money
2 - Investment banking
3 - Private equity
4 - Mergers and acquisitions
5 - Consulting particularly strategy/ Due Diligences teams
6 - Tech in general is well paid but the ones above are likely to be better paid

All of the above benefit from a strong mathematical background. If numbers are of no interest go for Law which can be very well paid if in a Law firm. In house they will be paid well but ~ 6 figures.
