Le Creuset

Is Le Creuset cookware worth the price tag?

I’ve got the Le Creuset salt and pepper mills and a utensil jar (in the shell pink colourway, if anyone was wondering) which I love. I’d love to have a casserole dish and a baking dish too!

I've got all of my le creuset roasting dishes/trays in tk Maxx really cheaply. I have two cast iron pans a spendy pro cook one and a cheap Aldi one. Both great.
I have a le creuset mug someone bought me and it's too thick and heavy for me

NotALightPacker · 31/08/2024 22:30

I got the Sainsbury's rip off version. It's fine. It is very heavy but I love that you can cook on the hob in it and then put it in the oven. They have regular sales where you get 25% or 33% off

Shakenandstirredup · 31/08/2024 22:30

I'll be disappointed if you dont also have a Kitchen Aid mixer on the counter.

I also got one of these as a wedding present, I think my extended family were trying to encourage me to learn to cook 😆😆

I’ve got a huge collection and love them all , the stainless steel pans are used every day and go into the dishwasher - 4 years later and still immaculate. I just see it as buying stuff I will have for ever really as the guarantee is good - I bought a huge casserole for £40 on eBay which developed a hole and they replaced it with a £350 brand new one

NotMeekNotObedient · 31/08/2024 22:32

I only have a griddle pan. I love it! Great for steak.

Anything else would be too heavy for me!

Just to chip in with more wanky kitchen accessories, I've just bought a ninja slow cooker and I'm in love with it

JoanThursday · 31/08/2024 22:33

Another pretentious wanker here. 🤗

I have a shallow casserole dish and use it several times a week for all sorts of things. It was a gift - am not sure if I would make such a purpose.

Also have the s&p grinders, set of mugs, some egg cups, a tea pot and a garlic jar (I live near an outlet). None of it matches - does that relieve some of the wankeriness??

Edited to add that I've also got a griddle pan 😳

iggleoggle · 31/08/2024 22:33

I love mine - I think it’s supposed to be a soup casserole dish, but I use it for anything and everything. I got it in an Amazon sale about 15 years ago, but I wouldn’t pay full or current prices for it.

DiscoBeat · 31/08/2024 22:34

We inherited the cast iron set but it was SO heavy. My stepson has them now. I have about 6 LC pans (the non stick type) but 4 years in and the non stick is coming off. I'm really disappointed as they cost several hundred pounds. I'm now using decent quality stainless steel pans which have nothing like the same price tag.

HollyGolightly4 · 31/08/2024 22:34

Casserole dish amazing. Use at least twice a week!

TheDogsMother · 31/08/2024 22:37

Oh yes I also have S & P grinders, small baking dishes, round baking dish, square baking dish (mostly from Homesense) so I truly am a pretentious wanker 🤣

Karmaisaguyonthechiefs · 31/08/2024 22:38

I was gifted a set by a work colleague and honestly best pans I own. They’re almost 40 years old now and like new

JaffavsCookie · 31/08/2024 22:39

Label me as a pretentious wanker if you must
have a large and small le crueset casserole dish, the large was was a wedding present 30 + years ago, still used at least 1x week, was more earlier. Is so much better than it’s tesco clone. Ditto the pans, my le crueset small frying pan is also more than 30 years old and still used multiple times per week.

CatchMeOnTheFlippetyFlip · 31/08/2024 22:39

No, but I've got eight of the mugs and am eyeing up some more. Could not afford the cookware but the colours of the mugs bring me joy.

Camembertcufflinks · 31/08/2024 22:40

Definitely worth it (especially if you get it on sale/second hand). I have a huge cast iron casserole with lid which gets used on an almost daily basis for cooking in. It's heavy but not too bad- not sure why so many say too heavy to lift! I use it, abuse it and shove it in the dishwasher. It's brilliant!

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 31/08/2024 22:45

PolaroidPrincess · 31/08/2024 22:25

I saw a thread on here recently saying how Menopause is associated with joint pain. Specifically wrists, knees and shoulders. So no, they're not worth it when you think that you probably won't be able to lift them over 40.

Is this a joke? I'm 60, I'm way past menopause and my joints are fine! I've got 3 le creuset, 2 casseroles and one wide lidded pan, got them as wedding presents 35 years ago, use them a lot and have no problems lifting them whatsoever, I wouldn't be without them.

Crispynoodle · 31/08/2024 22:45

I think they're worth it they last a lifetime and beyond

LadyChilli · 31/08/2024 22:47

I have a cast.iron casserole dish that I bought about 25 years ago, thinking it would last all my life. It's still going strong despite having been dropped more than once and also my ex husband turning the gas hob on under it (dry) and leaving it until the smell of burning alerted me. That took a bit of recovering but I got there.

I have a couple of non stick pans which were also very expensive. The quality of those has been rubbish. I've been very careful and only used wooden or silicone utensils and still the coating is all burned and stuck. It's a shame because they are a perfect size and shape

newnamethanks · 31/08/2024 22:51

Not for me, far too heavy, not worth getting an injury for although they look fine, sitting unused, on kitchen shelf.

Well that escalated quickly.

I have pretty much a full set of pots and pans. Took a few years to accumulate but they have been brilliant. Don't see the value of some of their earthenware stuff which seems ludicrously overpriced for what it is.

Pippifer · 31/08/2024 22:52

My mum has had her Le Creuset casserole dishes for almost 35 years and they are still going strong! I have a knock off from Waitrose and it does the job for me. I don’t think I’ll ever need to buy a real one.

I do have two of the Le Creuset rectangular dishes that I got in TK Maxx and but I mostly bought them for the colour than for the name 🤣

Backwoods57 · 31/08/2024 22:53

It's solid heavy and reliable, it heats evenly, and retains heat. I certainly like it, it is expensive but it will outlast you.

Added bonus, if someone breaks into your house you can hit them with it.

FourChimneys · 31/08/2024 22:55

I have a large casserole, bought during my first year of working so several decades old. It has been used hundreds if not thousands of times. I can make huge batches of soup to freeze, or cook large quantities of fruit to freeze for crumbles.

At the time it felt extortionate and I had to scrimp and save for it, but it has repaid every penny over the years.

I have a few smaller items too, all used regularly. I probably wouldn't buy genuine Le Crueset now, but I cannot remember there being other brands at the time.

CointreauVersial · 31/08/2024 23:00

I like their china (mugs, teapot) and I have salt & pepper mills, but the pans are too heavy for me.
