Le Creuset

Is Le Creuset cookware worth the price tag?

I’ve got the Le Creuset salt and pepper mills and a utensil jar (in the shell pink colourway, if anyone was wondering) which I love. I’d love to have a casserole dish and a baking dish too!

It’s far too heavy to lift particularly the large casserole. All of my saucepans and griddle pans stuck so were thrown out many years ago. Kept the casserole due to how much it cost but we never use it. Much prefer the stainless steel pans we have for our induction hob as they never stick, can go in the dishwasher and more importantly I can lift them up!

I've bought all mine second hand, at carboot sales and charity shops. The only the butter dish was new. Worth every penny.

I also find their griddle pans too heavy.

The ceramics, kettles etc are nice but 'spensive

🤣

SarahJinx · 31/08/2024 22:23

I have a set of creuset saucepans and casseroles that are 25 years old, get used easily every day and are immaculate. And chuck them in the dishwasher too. The sane set would cost a fortune now but well worth the money

persisted · 31/08/2024 22:23

I’ve got an Aldi pretend one. Now ancient and still in good shape, it will probably outlive me. I wouldn’t bother paying for the real stuff.

catwithflowers · 31/08/2024 22:23

I love ours though they are heavy. We have an Aga and they are perfect for slow cooking. Apologies for being a pretentious wanker 😩😂

TragicTess · 31/08/2024 22:24

Love mine - have made so many bolognese sauces in it that DD thinks she needs one to take to uni with her! Have had it for 20 yrs, so cost per use is negligible.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 31/08/2024 22:24

They are good, but I can't tell the difference between the supermarket versions tbh.

The best one I have is a rectangular cast iron open dish with handles from Aldi. Great for roasting, for lasagne, dauphinois potatoes.

Solonga · 31/08/2024 22:24

I use the stoneware baking dishes a lot as they go in the dishwasher, I also like my oil and vinegar bottles

I saw a thread on here recently saying how Menopause is associated with joint pain. Specifically wrists, knees and shoulders. So no, they're not worth it when you think that you probably won't be able to lift them over 40.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 31/08/2024 22:26

I love mines.

Although, It was a gift though and wouldn't buy it myself.

It's super heavy aswell.

drspouse · 31/08/2024 22:26

Yes if you get them on sale or from eBay or TK Maxx. We got an induction hob and had to change all our pans and just kept scouring the internet for them.

catwithflowers · 31/08/2024 22:27

@Bluerinsebrigade Sorry to disappoint 😂. We do have a Kitchen Aid type mixer but stuck in a cupboard and rarely used!

username44416 · 31/08/2024 22:27

My sister loves cooking and her cookware is Le Creuset. What she says is that you don't need to heat the pans very much as they cook evenly on a low heat. I think they're way too heavy and am not that into cooking but she thinks they're the bees knees.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 31/08/2024 22:27

They're brilliant. Our big casserole finally gave up the ghost this year after 20 years of service. I couldn't believe how much they cost now Shock so I bought a similar but non Le Creuset one. It's crap. Stuff sticks to it.

I'm 52 and can lift them fine.

Shakenandstirredup · 31/08/2024 22:28

I got a set of 3 saucepans, frying pan & casserole dish as a wedding present. This was yrs ago & I use them daily. They are heavy though. Wouldn’t have paid the prices myself.

fluffiphlox · 31/08/2024 22:28

We were given two casseroles nearly 40 years ago as wedding presents. They are used every week, one as a Dutch oven for sourdough.

Humdingerydoo · 31/08/2024 22:28

I love mine, but would be equally happy with the non-branded versions. I only started using Le Creuset because Amazon sent me a massive Dutch oven by mistake instead of the tiny (and cheap!) camera I'd ordered. It was a very happy mistake, although wasn't helpful at the time as I needed the camera for my upcoming holiday 😅

TheDogsMother · 31/08/2024 22:29

I bought mine 30 years and have subsequently sold some of the single handled saucepans as they are hugely heavy when full. The remaining items. (2 x casserole dish, balti dishes, shallow casserole) are all still great and will outlive me. I cant think of any other ovenware that is still going strong at 30 years and they are great on induction.
