Jobs for a 14/15 year old

Can a 14/15 years old going into year 10 work?
If so, what can they do?

I always thought you had to be 16!

Yeah my son worked in a local independent shop since 14. They have to apply to their local authority's children's services but it's a little bit of paperwork. My recommendation would be for small businesses rather than chains who are more likely to have a blanket minimum of 16.

Some deliver the local newspaper type thing, although some parents do get roped into that one!

It's harder now as employee liability insurance usually has a minimum age of 16. Markets might be a good place to try, and some shops still do paper rounds, but the jobs are few and far between. To be honest, it's hard for even 16 year olds to get a job in some areas. There aren't as many weekend jobs around as there used to be.

Who would want to employ a 14 year old?
Except to exploit them for cheap labour, maybe?
I can’t think of a single good reason.

For dull boring work at min wage

not many skilled educated ppl want to serve fries or wipe down tables 🙄

teens are great, high energy, easy to mould keen to learn
and full of funny stories!!
well mine are anyway
