Broken front tooth and now look freaky

Last week I fell face down and broke my front tooth. It was dying so the dentist did a root canal. It is black, I look scary.
Dentist gave some options, crown, denture or an implant. My dp has a crown in the back of his mouth and it regularly falls off.
I don’t like the idea of something temporary falling off and then I look even freakier.
I also thought about old age, I need something that is not going to cause me bother in 20 years time.
Also how good in terms of false tooth being obvious are these?
Help!

A competently made and cemented crown will look good and not fall off, even after a long time. Always better to save the tooth if at all possible.

My DH has had a crown at the back for about 14 years and it's never fallen off.

Even if it did, he'd get it re-cemented.

I broke both my front teeth as a kid and have had crowns for over 40 years now. I have had them replaced a couple of times but not once has one fallen out!

I’ve probably jinxed myself now 😉

Apparently crowns have a life expectancy of 8 years. My oldest one is now 12 years old. But if they fail you can get them done again and you'll be 8 or more years down the line.

I don't know about implants but I know they are good for front teeth.

I've just broken a crown that was 25 years old, I'm replacing it with a horrifically expensive implant- but it has definitely earned its keep.

I've had a crown on one of my front teeth for about 30 years, due to an accident. It's never fallen off and I've only had it replaced once because it was worn down and discoloured.

This is really reassuring! Thank you

I broke my front tooth when I was eight and had it crowned when I was 16, that crown lasted till I was 57 and it's replacement is going strong and I expect it to see me out. No opening of bottles with your teeth, and I always steered clear of biting into apples and it will last you for as long as mine have.

I'd go with a crown too. I had one fitted after a root canal about 8 years ago and it's been no bother at all.

Twoheliumballoons · 31/08/2024 22:18

Both my top front teeth are crowns that I've had for 20 years. I am getting them replaced this week, not because of any problems but because I have aged and my gums have receded showing the greyness at the top. I feel nervous about replacing them as they've given me absolutely no trouble the whole time that I've had them. I hope the new ones are just as good.

Jsndidndnnd · 31/08/2024 23:01

One of my front teeth is a crown and it is about 25 years old. You probably wouldn’t know and it doesn’t cause any trouble.

Pigeonqueen · 31/08/2024 23:47

I’ve never ever heard of peoples crowns falling out. I’ve had one since I was 19, I’m 43 now and it’s fine. If your dhs one is falling out it must have been done badly.

Nitgel · 31/08/2024 23:51

I had crowns and mine failed by snapping off at gum line. They lasted about 20 years. Replaced with implants.

Ubugly · 31/08/2024 23:52

I have done the same! Dead front tooth which had root canal, had composite restoration but looks awful in photos. Worried a crown will look so different to the other front tooth and of course am private not NHS so spent a bomb already.
