How cautious are you when travelling alone?

I'm staying alone in a hotel for a few days in a city I don't know very well, for medical appointments. It's a nice 4 star.

Eating in the, nice, restaurant last night the chap on his own next to me struck up a bit of a chat. He travels for work and I genuinely think he was a bit lonely. Wasn't a long chat and ended when my food arrived.

Back in my room though I realised he knew I was on my own and also knew my room number as there was a snafu with the bill.

I thought I should have said husband joining later or something. But I didn't, im in my 50s and was dressed down scruffs, so just had a chat.

Should you be more careful though?

I travel a lot by myself. I don't go to bars and get drunk and don't tend to wander about late at night by myself. Apart from that, it's fine.

I really wouldn't worry about that guy, it sounds like he just wanted a chat. Just lock your door and enjoy your evening.
