So my partner's parents are coming for lunch tomorrow, well technically they're just coming at lunchtime but of course I want to make a nice lunch. They've had dinner here before but dinner I am all good with, lunch on the other hand... what the hell can I make for a nice lunch?! I'm thinking chicken and bacon Caesar pasta salad but neither are big "lunch eaters" and I don't want to overwhelm them! I'm going to Sainsbury's tomorrow morning to get supplies so any ideas before then would be greatly received 🙏 would like something maybe a bit fancy and something they will find delicious 😀

Id do a big salad, get some nice meats and cheeses and some nice bread - perhaps some pickles / chutneys etc as well.

Salad and quiche always seems to be a winner as well, again with some nice bread

I think your idea of Caesar salad is a good one, but I wouldn't put pasta in it, especially if they're not big lunch eaters. Obviously it should have croutons, serve good bread with it not bland carb.

I was also going to suggest breads, meats cheeses and salad

It means everyone can take as much or as little of just what they want and leftovers aren't wasted as can be used over next day or so

Salad and quiche and some nice bread and cold meats/cheese as a choice.

Soup and a sandwich is always a safe bet.

I'd make cheese scones and do a ploughman's. Then they can just have a small amount if not very hungry.

BashfulClam · 29/08/2024 23:59

Sandwiches are the easiest option. I am not a fan of salad in general.

I usually do a bought cooked roast chicken, salad and either baked potatoes or crusty bread. Sometimes quiche instead of the chicken, or other cold meats. Simple but good food, where people can choose how much of anything they have. Not 'mixed up' food as it's difficult if it contains something that isn't liked. I would hate a chicken and bacon Caesar pasta salad, for instance, but most of the ingredients would be fine separately.

Thank you everyone! After the feedback I have done a complete 180 and decided to go with your suggestions, I will do cold meats, cheeses, bread, salad and maybe a little quiche (I'm a feeder 😂) thanks again everyone, have a wonderful Friday!
