Fairly common place now? Wtf has happened? Have you noticed it too?

Eh?

WannabeMathematician · 29/08/2024 19:31

I’m guessing you mean on roads? Not the profession?

I’ve not really noticed more other than around road which have left hand lanes the seem to phase in and out of existence.

DreamW3aver · 29/08/2024 19:36

Burying people or driving in the inside lane?

Ha. Undertaking on roads

Yes it's got worse. Yes, it's still illegal.

Hazydetailonlife · 29/08/2024 21:20

Everyone is too impatient

SellFridges · 29/08/2024 21:25

It depends. I’ve done it, but only when people have been driving in the wrong line (ie. anything other than the left lane when not overtaking). I don’t change my speed, but move to the left lane. Quite often I’ve found myself sailing past those in the middle lane.

I can’t abide people on motorways not proceeding at a suitable speed for the road condition. It can be incredibly dangerous.

Shitzngiggles · 29/08/2024 21:29

Middle lane hoggers.

WeakAsIAm · 29/08/2024 21:34

Yeah the answer is if someone is able to undertake you then you are likely to be a middle lane hogger.
Take a look at yourself first and address your own driving inadequacies before judging someone else.
There's far more middle lane hoggers than undertakers on the roads and they are much more infuriating.

Thing is, many people are backed up behind the lead lane hogger. Then some idiot comes up on the inside at Mach 3, then either inserts themselves or pushes ahead. Yes, the lane hogger is at fault, but the backed up cars aren’t.

Crushedcandy · 29/08/2024 21:39

I did a 300 mile round trip of motorway driving a few days ago. The amount of middle lane hoggers I encountered was ridiculous. If a driver doesn’t have the common sense or confidence to move from the middle lane to the inner lane then they are a danger on the roads and shouldn’t be on a motorway.

SodOffbacktoaibu · 29/08/2024 21:46

Had a bloody awful motorway journey today with some downright dangerous drivers. One in particular was undertaking and weaving. I wanted to go back to lane 2 ( of 4 lanes) after overtaking but was having a hard time of getting safely out of their way because they were undertaking at such a speed, getting way too close before doing so and not signalling at all. Really scary.

Loads of drivers not signalling at all. Loads doing 100mph and yes loads of middle lane hoggers plus one with his fog light on going erratically from 60 to 80 mph.

Not looking forward to the return journey. Cruise control is great but it really highlights how crap people are about maintaining a reasonable speed. Overtaking (or undertaking) like maniacs then slowing down again. It's like the fecking tortoise and hare if you do a steady 70mph 🙈

But isn't it illegal?

I'm at the back of a line of overtaking vehicles. Yes people should move in after they've overtaken obviously but when they don't it's still illegal and dangerous to undertake?

mellowfell · 29/08/2024 22:35

Motorbikes doing it is worse, I'm scared I'm going to crash them up in air one day.

lazzapazza · 29/08/2024 22:57

The police really need to do a massive purge on middle lane hoggers funded by giving them a fine and points for driving without due care and attention. I mean those ones who actually drive in the middle lane for miles with nobody anywhere near them. It is infuriating!

NewName24 · 29/08/2024 22:58

I've not noticed any change.

(I also opened the thread expecting it to be about funerals or funeral costs).

SellFridges · 30/08/2024 07:23

I don’t think it is illegal, unless you accelerate to undertake, which I accept is dangerous. If you maintain a legal speed and happen to go past someone tootling along at 60 in the middle lane, they are in the wrong.
