Quick question re defrosted mince

Hey! Quick question - we froze mince (on its exact use by date) and then defrosted it in the fridge last night to use tonight (it's now fully defrosted, still in the fridge) but we'd now like to use it tomorrow instead of tonight - so approx 48 hrs after we put it in the fridge. Do you think that will be OK? Thanks! xxx

I'd either cook it tonight, or, sniff it tomorrow and you have any doubts- bin it.

Edited to explain what I meant- Depending on the recipe, could you cook the meat tonight, just fry it off, then make the actual meal it includes tomorrow.

It will be fine as you will be cooking it i wouldnt do steak tartare with it though

invisiblecat · 29/08/2024 18:48

You froze it on its use-by date so I'd say no, it won't still be all right tomorrow. You need to cook it tonight, then chill and put back in the fridge for tomorrow.

I would cook it tonight

I read that as defrosted mice. Sorry, not helpful.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 29/08/2024 18:54

I'd eat it, things don't suddenly go off at the stroke of midnight there's margin for error built in

PolePrince55 · 29/08/2024 19:02

Eat the mince 👌

Also read as defrosted mice (to be fair I used to keep snakes so am not a stranger to frozen mice,).

Anyway, I would be happy to cook and eat it tomorrow if it was kept in the fridge until it was frozen and was thoroughly cooked tomorrow.

Of course it’s fine, all the dates are a scam to make us waste food unnecessarily!

4LittleSpeckledFrogs · 29/08/2024 19:13

I thought you had a pet snake

Oh gosh yes. If you bought it fresh and kept it in the fridge, it would probably have a couple of days’ life on it at least.

So that's only like that – you don't feel the need to use fresh mince the day you buy it do you?

Edited to add: Oh I see you froze it on use-by date, my bad. I'd still cook it tomorrow tho - maybe see if it looks and smells OK.

Mind you I have just eaten a pot of pasta salad* that was a yellow sticker from M&S on Tuesday which I took to work, had on my desk all day (hate chilled salad) and didn't get round to eating. So maybe I'm not the person to ask.

*It was yummy
