Child embarrassed by me

purpleme12 · 28/08/2024 22:02

My child said she'd rather her daddy come to the high school open evenings not me
Because 'i don't look like other mummys because I I'm short and look like a teenage but I don't dress like a teenager'
And will people will stare at me

I think she was half serious! 😕

Anyone else's kid said anything like this?

I think it's pretty normal to call your mum 'mummy' but when you're with your friends refer to her as 'mum' don't you?

Not at that age. And they certainly don’t said the plural “other mummies.”

purpleme12 · 28/08/2024 22:36

Ok

Thanks but I'm happy with how I responded and her intentions

So why did you post in the first place?

Not in my experience no

Lol when my eldest son went to highschool I brought him with the bus (can't drive, just took the bus with him and walked to his school). When he was younger he could talk very loud and I'd sssh him cause he'd say loud weird stuff in public and I was embarrassed. But now he was older and I said something, but we were near his school and it was so not cool. Other kids just came alone w the bus or on their bike, so he said sshhh don't talk so loud! Hilarious. Or I would have to leave so they wouldn't see me. Later he said it was stupid that he said that cause I talked very soft. It was funny though.

purpleme12 · 28/08/2024 22:37

Perhaps I shouldn't have.

Season 4 Troll GIF by Living Single

Yet another one doing the rounds.

I asked my DM if she could try to look like the headmistress at school - it was the 80s and headmistress had a tan like mahogany, big hair, big nails, armfuls of jewellery and a dress sense straight out of Dynasty.

My DM said no Grin

Why is it you think I'm a troll?

@purpleme12 you can post what you like xx
My 9 year old calls me cringe all the time lol

I think all kids get embarrassed by their parents sometimes when they reach a certain age. It takes them a while to realise that there isn't really a norm, most people are a bit odd and their parents aren't really anything out of the ordinary compared to anyone else's (in most cases, at least).

junebirthdaygirl · 28/08/2024 22:42

My friend is stunning. Dressed beautifully with gorgeous hair, tall, leggy etc. Her ds hated her collecting him saying why do you have to dress like that..why can't you just be in tracksuits like the other mums. You can't win. But it does pass. By 17 my kids were back to normal and l remember always being embarrassed by my own mum. My friends still say to this day..oh your mum was so lovely when we were all growing up and l realise all my embarrassment was for nothing.

hangingonfordearlife1 · 28/08/2024 22:45

i'm m more concerned that a child going to secondary still says the word daddy.

jazzhands84 · 28/08/2024 22:46

My dad delighted in living up to the challenge and would embarrass his kids and anyone else he felt slighted by. At his worst, he dressed as an elf to pick up someone from the station.

purpleme12 · 28/08/2024 22:46

That's ok I'm not concerned about that

I'm pretty sure she won't say daddy in front of her friends and it won't probably be long before she'll start saying dad anyway

Are you pretty by any chance? Do you look young?
I had a family member who looked quite young and she hated being out with her mum because all the boys would make comments about her mum being good looking and a "MILF"

purpleme12 · 28/08/2024 22:55

God unfortunately I can't say anyone has ever referred to me as a MILF

It would be nice if I was pretty or got any attention at all 😂

But I might look younger than I am
But not by a huge amount anymore unfortunately 😂

So why post? You don’t have any problem with what she said, how she said it, how you responded or how you’ll handle this kinds of thing going forward. Fine… but why post? You’re not interested in listening to anyone.

Absolutely this, @purpleme12

What’s your point in posting when your answer to everyone is condescending?

Or did you come on here just to be condescending?

Cheeseeasyplease · 28/08/2024 22:59

When I was 7 my gran would collect me from school and walk me home. She walked very slowly and I remember being embarrassed - when I voiced it she was pretty angry with me.

After that I walked myself home from school so it must have stung her. I didn't think about her feelings at the time, I was too young.

purpleme12 · 28/08/2024 23:00

@DreamTheMoors i didn't realise I was being condescending

Which bits are condescending?

Quite honestly,I just don't come on here to get in arguments. And people are trying to say she'll get bullied, she's rude, I baby her, she talks too funny/babyish etc and I'm happy those aren't issues and so I just didn't want to respond and get into those things and to descend into this tit for tat argument on here where we go back and forth because that's what happens so often on here. So I haven't got into those things

Pretty common in Ireland to have a Mammy and Daddy. Although my son in law to be has a Mam.

K37529 · 28/08/2024 23:01

Well here I am in my 30s still calling my mum and dad mummy and daddy 😂😂

Twototwo15 · 28/08/2024 23:02

I would be quite pleased to be told I looked like a teenager. Better than being told you look like an old prune.
