Hey,

totally nosey question so please just scroll on if you’re not interested….

after you have paid all of your essential bills/costs, how much disposable income do you have left to spend/save?

OP posts:

£2500 for us if only essential bills and costs. Incredibly fortunate in my eyes. I have been in much worse positions.

Skibidy · 28/08/2024 19:10

Probably around £500. Trying to improve my situation currently by setting up a business so hopefully things will get better.

FluffBomb · 28/08/2024 19:17

Essential outgoings / utility bills = £737. With £2983 per month left over for food, entertainment, petrol, clothes, holidays, going out, savings etc…

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/08/2024 19:19

Not much leftover.

HotelCustody · 28/08/2024 19:22

Around £75

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 28/08/2024 19:26

What do you consider essential? I save for ds and for us, we pay for clubs, subscriptions, is my car essential? What about paying to have it cleaned? What about broadband? Mobiles? Haircuts? I mean I could cut it myself, but others might see lashes and nails as essential

If you said what do you have left after you've paid mortgage/rent, council tax, gas/electric, phones and groceries (for example) it would be clearer, because what some people consider essentials is different to others

Autumnismyfavouritetimeofyear · 28/08/2024 19:39

Before my extra job - nothing. Now I do an extra day a week - about £1000. But I cant keep up working as much for long so I will have to rethink what I do and when.

MillshakePickle · 28/08/2024 20:04

After all bills, food, childcare, subscriptions, pensions and clubs are paid we are left with only circa £600. Car payment is due to finish in a couple of months which will bump it up to around £900

About 2.8k after all bills including food, fuel, life insurance, dogs etc. We are currently paying over 800 a month off debt so will go up in a few years, but we are also moving house so will take on a bigger morgtage.

Holidays / Christmas etc tend to come out of my DP bonuses. Appreciate we are very lucky

dothehokeycokey · 28/08/2024 20:12

Not 100% sure and it can vary depending however it's anywhere between £2000-£3000 per month spare after everything's paid out

CoastalCalm · 28/08/2024 20:17

About £3k which is mainly saved for early retirement , leave myself about £500 to spend

Itonlytakesaminute · 28/08/2024 20:27

When I'm not on mat leave, £3600

greenose · 28/08/2024 20:29

About £1800 for me and one dc

Overtheatlantic · 28/08/2024 20:33

Around £2500 with paying a double mortgage payment. We are very fortunate though.

KATHSTYLE · 28/08/2024 20:41

£1600 after food, bills, sinking funds.

mitogoshi · 28/08/2024 20:42

Plenty, but mortgage is paid off and as of this Saturday all kids left home

Summertimesadnessie · 28/08/2024 20:49

As a household about 1.5/2k after mortgage, childcare, bills and emergency fund and any adhoc big expenses that always seem to rear their heads and kids savings. We try to save half of that a month

willtheguiltend · 28/08/2024 21:00

As a household, after all bills (including food, mortgage, utilities, insurances, cars, pet stuff, subscriptions) we have £1000 spare each month.

FinallyYouSaid · 28/08/2024 21:03

About Between £1000 and £2000 a month. Variable due to self employment.

PiggieWig · 28/08/2024 21:05

About £100 a week but there’s usually something like a car repair or a birthday that swallows a chunk up each month.

imisscashmere · 28/08/2024 21:06

This thread is going to make a lot of people feel like shite.

LoquaciousPineapple · 28/08/2024 21:07

About a third of our income is disposable once all the bills are paid. We’re lucky enough to be able to save about half of that.

Pandasandtigers · 28/08/2024 21:08

Once all monthly bills are paid the household has £303 spare a month. It sounds a lot but goes nowhere, seems to get used to top up food shopping, kids uniform, car tax or something or other, so goes nowhere at all! We do have two take away a a month but don’t eat out, don’t go on holidays and buy clothes from supermarkets. Our kids are just starting to get to an age where they will be more independent soon, which means both of us can return to work and being as we have lived so frugally, when that happens, we will feel like millionaires with the extra amount left over monthly….just waiting for that time.

Cantbelieveit888 · 28/08/2024 21:11

As mortgage is now paid off I’d say we have around £6000 of disposable income. Once we start the new mortgage we will probably have about £2000.
