Lost my baby’s hospital band/bracelet

How many of you kept your baby’s hospital band?
I think I have accidentally thrown my baby’s away shortly after being back from hospital, I’ve turned the house upside down and can’t find it anywhere and she only had one. My head has been all over the place recently after having a c section etc and I keep kicking myself for not putting it somewhere safe. Any ideas of what I could order as a keepsake to replace it? I was going to make a keepsake box. Not sure what the point of this post is!

DD1... I'm not sure if I have it or not. DD2 was a homebirth, so none!

I kept their first sleepsuits as memories.

There'll be lots of other keepsakes, so start the box.

Why don't you write up something nice about the first time you held your baby or the day you brought them home, and put that in the box.

Congrats! And I hope you feel stronger and stronger as you recover. Don't beat yourself up over this small thing Brew

Thank you, I feel so stupid but I’m gutted I’ve lost it, feel like a bad mum already! 🤣 I’m going to start a box , I have a few things already like the hat they put on her at the hospital when she was first born.

That’s a good idea! I have the hospital hat they put her in when she was first born

I still have my children's (aged 27 and 24).

The younger one was a home birth so didn't have a hospital one but I asked the midwife if she would make one up for me so I could keep it.

I haven't looked in their keepsake boxes recently but if I remember rightly the other things in there are the congratulations cards I received when they were born, a slice of their Christening cakes, and the clips from their umbilical cords!

I only still have DSs because the midwife did several and put one inside his red book, the terrible parent that I am only realised it was there recently when I went to put a certificate he'd received into the box and I had a quick flick through the bits in the box. 😅

There's so many other nicer things to put in there like the hat, their coming home outfit, first shoes etc.

Oh how lovely ❤️ I’m absolutely gutted I’ve lost the hospital band, I was so tired , hadn’t slept in days and I think I must’ve accidentally thrown it away 😭.

I was tempted to ask the hospital if they’d give me another one but I don’t think that would be possible 😢

Do you have yours from when you were born? I don’t and haven’t ever missed it. There will be plenty of keepsakes.

I randomly found one of my DC's today. No idea which of them as the lettering is completely faded. I showed it to them, they expressed surprise that they had ever had wrists that small, laughed at my inability to store "treasured" possessions, discussed Swedish death cleaning and put it in the bin.

sangriaandsunshineplease · 28/08/2024 18:44

My DC are both teens btw

Portfun24 · 28/08/2024 18:46

Don't think I've got any of them. I don't really understand the point in keeping things that have no use, I'm the least sentimental person ever.

GoodVibesHere · 28/08/2024 18:57

Aww congratulations on your new arrival.

Mine are teens now, and recently one of my DC enjoyed reading some notes that I'd made in a 'My baby' book. It's just dates that they did their 'first', e.g. 'X first smiled on 28/09/24', or 'X began to roll over on 28/09/24'. The more interesting things were their first teddy, the names of first family/friends who visited them, their first word, first ever food item they tasted and things they didn't like to eat. Also they enjoyed seeing my writing where I'd noted a few simple things about the year, e.g. name of our current prime minister, how much a pint of milk costs, name a current celebrity, what pets we have and where we live.

These things are fun and quite sweet for a teen to read about, more than the wrist band.

Monkeysatonthewall · 28/08/2024 19:00

I'd say don't worry about it 😊
Mine got lost I remember thinking it would've been nice to see it (when I was a child) but it's not something too important.

DappledThings · 28/08/2024 19:02

DH kept ours. Wouldn't have occurred to me to do so. He has them in a box somewhere. Not sure what the point is really.
